Yeah... BLA doesn't mod the original 828s anymore, unfortunately. I definitely considered that for a while. I ended up finding an RNP on eBay for a great price and went with that. Nice little preamp for sure.

I just read through this after it came up on active topics, then I realized the thread was over 6 months old at the beginning......Happy Belated Birthday.....LOL

I am a mic addict and a real gear dweeb, I use a 414 on the body of the guitar and a 184 at 12th fret or so if I want the acoustic to be the prominent instrument in the mix, and only a 184 if it is a smaller part of the mix. I usually use the preamps on my old Soundcraft 800B. I do have a R121 ribbon, but have never tried it on acoustic....

I do have a birthday coming up, I am thinking about purchasing a GAP Pre 73 unmodded. This is a inexpensive Neve 1073 knock-off. It should make a good crayon in my collection ..
