Mr Waits...ish...

Post by michaeladam » Thu Jan 12, 2012 11:55 am

hello folks,

I just put first mix of 'big drinks' on my taxi page. Id love to hear any feedback. It's for this listing:
A-List Hollywood Music Supervisor needs Moody, Atmospheric INDIE FOLK in the stylistic ballpark of Ryan Kickland, Tom Waits, etc. for a wildly popular TV show. If your song has a LITTLE twang to it, that could work, but DO NOT submit Country for this. This show also has a dark-ish, gritty, greasy feel to it, and they need SONGS that reflect that. LYRIC THEMES should be about being lonely, emotionally lost, troubled, troubled times, hard times, being tough, being a badass, etc. As always, DO NOT rip-off or copy the referenced aritsts in any way, shape or form. UNIVERSAL LYRIC THEMES will do best for this pitch. AVOID specifics like names and places. Full-length songs only. MALE or FEMALE VOCALS are both okay for this pitch. All submissions need to be Broadcast Quality (excellent home recordings are fine), though it's notable that the referenced artists are pretty LO-FI, so check them out to see how slick they are NOT! You must own or control 100% of the Master and Composition rights. This is DIRECT to the Music Supervisor, so you will KEEP 100% of the income should you get a placement. Please submit one to three SONGS (no instrumentals please) online or per CD. ALL submissions will be screened on a YES/NO BASIS by a person HAND-PICKED by the Music Supervisor himself. NO full critiques from TAXI due to the short deadline. Submissions must be received no later than MONDAY, January 16th at 10am (PST). TAXI # Y120116FO
enjoy,
michael

This listing has me drooling too!

Your track is great, has the very right vibe.
I'd like to hear some big, cavernous reverb like
The Cramps.

Great job!

Yep, your track has the right vibe.
The vocals are a bit hard to understand in places .. are they too far back or getting lost in the mix maybe?

Wow very Pete Doherty sounding to me (The Libratines,Baby Shambles)

I get what your doing with the vocal and its cool (again reminiscent of Pete Dohertys home recordings) but agree with Dean it could be brought out slightly.... Maybe add some more twang guitar

Thanks guys!

I see what you mean about the vocals.. but im not sure what to do about it... I dont think making it any louder would help that...

Thanks again!

I'm not an engineer, but I know sometimes you can find more 'room' in the mix for the vocals by panning, eqing, etc .. and get the vocal to cut through better.

If you are not familiar with what to try, ask. there's some good engineers on this forum who will help you. You could post in General Hangout titled "How Do I Get My Vox to Cut Through the Mix Better".

Good luck.

Hey,

This sounds like its a good fit for the request. Cool song....Mr. Waits...ish for sure. Getting the vocals right is an art and I can relate to all the pains that come with that process! A little tweeking and I think you got a winner!
