HIGH-ENERGY, CONTEMPORARY, SUPER-CATCHY, POSITIVE INDIE POP SONGS with VOCALS Two Door Cinema Club, The Naked and the Famous, and Foster the People wanted by Film/TV Publisher servicing advertising. Arrangements can be simple or complex, organic or synth-based so long as they are inventive and show flair and imagination. Remember, the '80s was two decades ago, so keep retro influences nuanced, if any. Lyrics should be upbeat and motivating. It's advertising, so keep your lyrics intriguing but not too specific. Most importantly, your hook should be undeniably infectious and supported by distinctive vocals with plenty of personality and finesse. This is a broad listing but potent melodies that register immediately and impart a feel-good energy will nail it. FULL SONGS ONLY. No expletives please. You must own 100% of your master and composition. Broadcast quality only (good home recordings will be considered). Please submit one to three songs online or per CD, include lyrics. All submissions will be screened and critiqued by the Publisher and must be received no later than Thursday, December 22, 2011. TAXI #S111222IP

This just a pure example of whats like to get the whole stylistically interpretation of the listing wrong. It's obvious as you say that all of my tunes are retro retro and do not have the analog synths, loops or vocal effects that these bands retain in their recordings. Your spot on and thanks for all the positive comments on the songs. I hear what your saying about that solo section of She Blew Me Away, it kind of works for some but obviously not so much for yourself.

I am specifically optimistic that you digged my tune ''Busy With My Own Dreams'' and branded it ''the Irish Kinks'' Now THAT is a weird combination if ever I heard one. and thanks for all the 8's and one 9 for the lyrics. Kewl man Kewl 8-)

She Blew Me Away

The intro works. The verse is interesting, though the backing vocals, especially, make clear, what is substantiated by the following melodic and musical parts: This song has a strong retro, 60's element and does not fit this listing stylistically. After the second chorus, a new musical and vocal bridge could keep the listener engaged more, in my view, than the solo section over the already established chord structures.

Busy With My Own Dreams

The Irish Kinks! I know that statement is not entirely true, but as far as soundbites go, I truly feel, that many aspects of the song remind of songs from the mid-late 60's period of the British band. The slightly eccentric lyrics and the old-skool/classic instrumentation suit this song well, and the whole thing works, though not for our specific listing.

Boxes ticked: Not close enough for what the listing asked for and Not current sounding.

Retro, classic rock/pop and SInger/Songwriter elements. We were looking for more contemporary indie pop material for this listing, in the vein of the bands mentioned in the listing, for example, Two Door Cinema Club, The Naked and the Famous, and Foster the People .

Overall Comments

Hey Stephen, the songs have a cool, original vibe and bring together aspects of classic rock/pop with some Singer/Songwriter elements and amalgamate the whole thing to a rather retro sounding melange of 60's influences with a hint of today. I think the concept works and the product sounds real and authentic, though I feel that modernizing the sound/instrumentation could be helpful when trying to market the material in 2012.
Using some elements of "now" - analog synths, tasteful loops and/or vocal effects, more surprising arrangements and melodies etc. might make for a more successful bid when it comes to listings such as the one you are submitting for here.
I wish you good luck with everything.

Sound Quality: Not great but clean enough for this listing

The main reason(s) you were or were not forwarded for this listing is: The songs do not fit the listing stylistically.
