Confused..
Having been a TAXI member for 3 years, I've certainly learned alot. From reviews, from forum members, from a Road Rally, TAXI TV, etc... and one thing I've heard over and over and learned was to try to pay more attention to what a listing is asking for and really try to match a song to a listing. Way back when, when I took a song co-written by a singer, a country waltz, and submitted it to a contemporary country listing and was told it was too traditional, I got it. And the singer even said later she was kind of thinking Loretta Lynn when she wrote it. OK, fine. But recently I saw listing Y111221CO for CLASSIC AMERICAN COUNTRY SONGS in the spirit of WILLIE NELSON, JOHNNY CASH, LORETTA LYNN, etc." and I figured "Perfect!". Well apparently not because the non-review, short notice I got back was:
Stylistically Off Target;
Not close enough to this library's request for "CLASSIC AMERICAN COUNTRY SONGS in the spirit of WILLIE NELSON, JOHNNY CASH, LORETTA LYNN, etc."
??? um... so which is it??
If I get one back that says its a vocal performance... ok, I guess it could always be better
If I get one back that says Not broadcast quality, I can accept that, it could always be better.
But style?? I'm sorry but a country waltz, female vocal?? First its too traditional, then not traditional enough??? I've defended my membership with TAXI to people who don't understand the process, I accept it as a learning experience and continue to try to improve my matching of material to listings, but this one just really blew my mind and now i'm confused about 1) Whether I've lost my mind and have no understanding of what listings are asking for 2) what the screeners are listening to and 3) whether Taxi IS a waste of money or a scam... Its frustrating. Thats common in this field, I know. It goes with the territory. But really??? A Country Waltz???

Re: Confused..
Where can I hear the song? I'd like to see if I think it's Trad. Country.

Re: Confused..
Hi,
My thought/guess is this particular screener felt this leaned into the pop world a little too much (a la Crystal Gayle). Not what they were aiming for in this particular case. Listen to Crystal Gale then Loretta Lynn back to back. Yours sounds closer to the former in my opinion (yes I know they're sisters).
Of course I'm only guessing and this is only my opinion. Hope that helps in some small way though. - Roger

Hi Roger,
Thanks for the reply. Certainly something to consider. I played them back to back and definitly
see (hear) the difference and agree with your assessment. This would be so much easier if every genre these days didn't have 20 sub-generes...lol.
Thanks again!
