Re: Michael Anderson - Are you a Songwriter?
Great post, Judy. I must say, however, that I see the great democratization of the music industry just a little bit differently; while the workers have seized the means of production, we haven't quite grasped the reins of promotion. It may seem so to early adopters, but the internets haven't yet gone as mainstream as they will, imo; broadcast media are still the dominant lifeform. At this moment, the 'net has made us all local musicians; we no longer compete with the band down at the corner pub, we compete with The Strokes and David Bowie, and poor David Bowie has to compete with 1982 David Bowie.
(and I say "poor" because if he doesn't own his masters, he's as well screwed as anybody in this game) There's a very long thread on LinkedIn about whether the home studio can compete with the majors, and the general consensus is that it's possible, but in a limited way. Limited, because as Mazz teaches, it's the ear, not the gear, and no amount of whiz bang technology will magically turn us into Gus Dudgeon in time for the ball at the palace. If we're gonna storm the place, I suppose Doc Martens are more appropriate footwear than glass slippers, in any case.

The Beatles weren't/aren't Irish.
Like the song says... "I'm an Englishman in New York".... and loving it.

I was trying to give Stephen a bit of a boost by reminding him he hails from a country, small and isolated though it is,that it possesses a marvelous musical pedigree.
But I have checked my facts and I do apologise,

Thanks for helping me get that straight.

Thanks everyone for the replies. A lot of what you said went straight over my head, which really does display my ignorance of what goes on behind the curtain in the oz of the music business. haha.
Mc Cartney is an Irish name. I'm not sure about Lennon but Mc Cartney is definitely Irish in background. He came to my town not so long ago to get married. He said he wanted to do it here because of his Irish roots.
It doesnt really bother me the whole irish, American, indian and mongolian labels because they are just labels to me invented by the people to pigeon hole one another and create some order. Deep down inside we are all the same. A thick crust of Culture perhaps but deep down inside we are all the same, we all laugh we all cry and we all get angry. It's not the country that bestows the gift of songwriting on me. It's God himself.
Now I'm being all philosophical/theological on you
Thanks everyone I'm gonna read this thread a couple of times over to let it all sink in.

Hi Stephen!
The important thing is you are here and bouncing back.
Regarding my reply to Mr Muffet,as I am sure you have guessed, I was being facitious, well everything after the first line was a load of Balericks!!!!!!
I see you are getting lots of offers of help and if there is absolutely anything I can do I will be pleased to do it,so PM me.
Also,Casey has suggested,on another thread, just a guitar and voice demo and I doubt he will mind me saying but he has done that himself, much to his acute, admitted embarrassment but the quality of his writing shines through as will yours.
TC,
Mick.
BTW,
My favorite Fools scenes are,the Chandeliers and the one at the bar but there are so many!!!

I thought McCartney had Scottish roots.

This is slightly off topic here, but one of the posts mentioned Jason Blume. He's had great success. Could somebody here post up the last song he wrote and charted, and when? Tried to find it, but my computer skills are limited. Ott
