Cover Songs Database
Hey Gang;
I came across this site that is a database of songs and performers who "covered" them. Here's the link:
http://www.secondhandsongs.com/
And below is the original article about it.
Enjoy!

I saved this resource without noting who sent it to me â was it reader TS? JS? Anyway, itâ s a fun one. Second Hand Songs is a database of songs originally recorded by one artist but then covered by another (and possibly several others.) According to the front page of the site at http://www.secondhandsongs.com/, there are currently 30542 works, 117622 performances, 2332 samples and 36664 artists on the site.
Thereâ s a basic search for songs and artists, but a more advanced search for artists, mediums, labels, and even visual performances. If youâ d rather browse you can look at recently-added items or newly-released items. I did a basic search for Fabulous Thunderbirds.
The results page I got was divided into several sections, including original performances, covers, an album list, and what I presume was a list of other soundtracks/albums that the artistâ s work had appeared.
You can also look at individual songs. One of the songs the FT covered was Wrap it Up. I clicked on the song title and got information about who wrote the song and the original recording artist (Sam & Dave) as well as a list of whoâ s covered it since (FT, Buddy Miles, and Eurythmics.)
For a site thatâ s all about songs Iâ m a little surprised that there arenâ t song clips or performance clips, but this seems to be mostly reference. I did find it useful, though; I looked up artists I liked and then saw who had covered their songs, if any. It wasnâ t surprising to see that Tomâ s Diner by Suzanne Vega had been covered twice, but Luka?â Š FIVE times?â Š

Re: Cover Songs Database
I have a particular taste for covers that have been "rocked up" by Hard Rock and Metal bands.
Love Potion Number 9 - Tygers of Pan Tang (featuring John Sykes on guitar)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AyoPco75M7k
The Winner Takes It All - At Vance
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9eid5cWglOU
Runaway - Luis Cardinaz (held a world record for world's largest drum set)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qLDY-7TUogk
Easy Lover - Jaded Heart (awesome version of the Phil Collins/Billy Ocean hit)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zT8Ai-p31Hw
Piece of My Heart - Rough Cutt (Totally kick-azz and inspiring live performance!)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=27Fci256nx4
Immigrant Song - Dread Zeppelin (silly yet hilarious version of the Led Zepplin tune)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3CO7FPU7a2g
Enjoy!!!

Re: Cover Songs Database
By the way, it seems the site doesn't count a remix as a cover; there's an entire thirteen track album of mostly Tom's Diner (Suzanna Vega) covers/remixes. (I think there's eleven versions, in all, twelve, if you include Vega's extended edit of the non-a capella version) Oddly, it's not mentioned in this wikipedia entry: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tom%27s_Diner but you can buy it at Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Toms-Album-Suzann ... B000002GJR My favorite is "Jeannie's Diner".

Thanks, Suz
Sometimes covers are better than the originals, imo, or at the very least offer inspiration on how to re-treat songs. Thanks for posting.

I couldn't find a cover of any of my tunes. Oh wait! I haven't got a cut yet!
