Does "Should" mean...definitely?

Post by sethlit » Mon Feb 13, 2012 7:25 pm

For the recent Indie Singer Songwriter (TAXI #Y120222IS) listing, it says that songs "should" be at least 3 minutes. I have a couple of tunes I'd like to submit, but they all land just a little under 3 minutes (2:40, 2:48, etc.). Do you think this is a set in stone thing? Any experiences, suggestions? I'd rather not force another repeat chorus at the ends :D . Thanks!!
Your SONGS should be at LEAST 3 Minutes in length. Universal lyrics with no proper names, specific storylines, or place names, please. Vocal and instrumental performances must be top-notch!

My interpretation for this listing would be yes, at least 3 minutes. To be sure, I'd suggest you call Taxi and ask.

I have had tracks returned me for being slightly under the time suggested in the listing. I have had some luck lengthening tracks by adding sections, most of the time I end up with stronger more pitchable tracks.

Good luck!

In general, following submission guidelines to a "T" is the best practice when submitting music to anyone in the industry.

You could email or call Taxi and ask how strict that 3 minute thing is.

Best of luck!

Thanks guys, you have affirmed my suspicions. Even after 2ish years with taxi, I still can't help but think I don't have to follow the listing guidelines. But if they only hear my amazing tune!! ;) (sarcasm).

But good idea, I'll send out an email to taxi and see if 2:40 is pushing it. Thanks for the quick responses!
