swampy acoustic slide piece

Post by teleblaster » Sun Mar 18, 2012 10:06 am

Wrote this http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=11514720 this morning for this pitch:
NEW LISTING -- GRITTY, SWAMPY BLUES INSTRUMENTALS needed by the Owner of a successful Independent Music Placement Company looking to create a library specifically for Reality TV. This owner has a proven track record, already having gotten many TAXI members' instrumentals licensed into a very popular Entertainment News Program, and now he's branching out into the Reality TV world. HE SAID, AND WE QUOTE: "I would really like a bunch of slow slide blues as well as fast swampy blues. I'm NOT looking for 12-bar blues with long self indulgent guitar solos. All tempos will work as long as the atmosphere is a stinking swamp." Referenced tracks given by the source are as follows:
"Swamp River Days" by John Fogerty
"Heard It Through The Grapevine" by CCR
"Swamp Blues" by Ben Prestage
Along with the slower, almost creepy slide blues:
"Dark Was The Night" by Blind Willie Johnson
All tempos will be considered as long as the tone and mood of the tracks can provide the swampy feel needed. The company offers a 3-year exclusive term. Your instrumentals must be Broadcast Quality (excellent home recordings are okay.) Please submit one to three instrumentals online or per CD. All submissions will be screened and critiqued by TAXI and must be received no later than Tuesday, March 20, 2012.

All feedback appreciated; thanks

Nice acoustic blues picking.
Well played and pleasant to listen to.
For this listing the critical aspect is wether this is what the screener will have in mind or being inline with the intentions of the library.
It is expressed as various things might work " as long as the atmosphere is a stinking swamp" :-)
I don't smell it here, sorry. In particular in the beginning I get the feeling of being in an upper middle-class British tea party , where the hostess son is asked to perform some joyous music he has learned in his guitar lessons. The performance starts out rather restrained and flat with very little passion, Although it is getting much better as it goes along. What if you brutally removed the first portion for this listing?- I'm just afraid of the first impression effect.
Maybe a more gritty sound would be a good thing here, less hi-fi, ( distortion, tape simulation, eq)
It's just my subjective view of course. I think you have already styled the track as you want it, and then you should of course keep that way, and consider these just as amusement.
I also hear excess string noise here, I don't mind that at all, but it is something that screeners of blues have disliked.
I currently hear a lot of swampy cues on TV, but not like your's, that could be a good thing ?

Very cool! I like the variations in the groove.

Ya got a lil bump in it between 1:14 and 1:16. Doesn't really sound like its supposed to be there. Maybe the supervisor can work around it if he/she uses it? Hope it doesn't ruin your chances of getting it forwarded if a screener hears that.

Maybe fix that before sending??

GOOD LUCK!!
If I log off, I may never be able to get back on ;)

Hi teleblaster,

That's a really good slide tune! The recording is very good even though I'm listening to it on my notebook. Nice job!

I agree with tordenspyd, I think this sounds a little to clean for this listing and it has an almost happy vibe to it.

Perhaps you could do another one, slower and with an edge. That slow and creepy slide thing. I think you could do this very well!

This makes me think of swamps: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MiBhZIaJsQ4

Anyway a very good tune!
