New Age / Quirky Hip Hop Forwards

Post by bobadohshe » Tue Jun 30, 2009 5:22 pm

It's been a June of highs and lows for me in my second Month of Taxi membership. I had a couple stinging returns, I've been submitting to a lot of listings and I've been playing the game of waiting, waiting, waiting. I recently upgraded to Dispatch which has been nice for the instant gratification / rejection it provides - far less tantalizing waiting. But the good news is I got some forwards this week and that's been a good feeling. One was for the Quirky Beastie Boys style Hip Hop instrumentals, and one was for the New Age songs. I also had a uptempo crime drama forward.if you check out www.taxi.com/bobbycressey you can check them out (if you're so inclined)The new age forwards were 'Misty Morning' and 'Fire of the Night'The Quirky Hip Hop forwards were 'The One Hander', 'No Second Date', and 'Party Hearty'.The uptempo crime drama forward was 'Airman'.Thanks to everyone who has been so encouraging in answering all my newbie questions and for your guidance and inspiration!

Sounding great...checking out the new age trax. It gets to be much less of an emotional rollercoaster regarding the forwards/returns after the first year or so! Congrats!

I feel your pain... ha ha. I joined the same time as you, and I've felt the same sting of rejection. However, I haven't yet had the upside of actually getting a forward. I listened to your music, and think your forwards were well deserved! Kudos!

I checked em all out. Really nice work. Great piano playing on the new age pieces. I had no idea what Quirky Hip Hop could possibly sound like, now I get it.I dug the rhythms on airman.Remember that the rejections don't necessarily reflect on the quality of the music, most of the time its just a reflection on how appropriate the music is for the listing. Takes time to figure out what they are looking for. So shrug em off, listen to what others have done that gets forwarded and start writing something new.Congrats!B

Thanks Bryan. I know what you mean about the rejections not meaning your music necessarily is bad, just a little OT. One rejection I got was for the business themed instrumentals, and the screener simply said 'guitar a little hot in the mix, and the drums aren't heavy enough'. It's like, well I could spend 2 minutes fixing that and then it would be a viable track! Live and learn.
