Was just wondering if it's ok to use non-lyrical vocals in instrumentals (oohs and ahhs, hums etc)
Sometimes they ask for no vocals, but does that really count?

Personally I would leave them out, because vocals naturally tend to draw attention. I think if you had them it might limit the use of the song to scenes without dialog. I don't know if I heard that somewhere or just made it up,lol!

I had a track returned, that had oohs and ahs on it, with the comment that it was not instrumental. I was quite surprised by this, but won't make the same mistake in future! I've taken the track off my page now, but can send you an mp3, or I'll be posting a reworking of the track in a while.
Hope that helps.

I think for instrumental listings you should leave any vocals out ( even non-lyrical)
unless the listing says that those type of vocals are accepted..
you could always print another mix with your "oohs and ahhs" and submit it to a library or some other opportunity...

Unless the listing says that oohs and ahhs are OK, it's best to leave them out. While it's true that vocal sounds can sometimes blend in as another "instrument", it's hard to know exactly what will be acceptable to any given screener or listing party. Odds are tough enough out there-- no need to make them tougher.
