TRADITIONAL/PATRIOTIC SONGS # Y120306AM

Post by burpo » Wed Feb 15, 2012 9:18 pm

TRADITIONAL and CONTEMPORARY PATRIOTIC/AMERICAN SONGS in the PUBLIC DOMAIN Ð are needed by an established and successful Music Library for placement in advertising and Film/Television. Songs mentioned by the company include: "The Star-Spangled Banner," "Battle Hymn of the Republic," "America the Beautiful," "My Old Kentucky Home," etc. They're also open to Gospel-style, a cappella renditions (either lead or choral) of well-known songs a la "Swing Low Sweet Chariot," "Amazing Grace," "Down by the Riverside," "Nobody Knows the Trouble I've Seen," etc. Great Vocal and Instrumental performances needed! Styles and mood may vary but all songs must be in the PUBLIC DOMAIN. Broadcast quality is needed (excellent home recordings are fine.) Please submit one to three songs online or per CD. All submissions will be screened on a YES/NO BASIS ONLY - NO CRITIQUES FROM TAXI - and must be received no later than Tuesday March 6, 2012. TAXI# Y120306AM

I've read this listing several times and am seeking some reassurance
as to what the lister wants.

Even though it says, "styles and moods may vary," it seems that they really aren't
looking to stray too far into weirdsville. Am I wrong? Do you think they want
Daft Punk's version of "You're a Grand Old Flag"? or are we looking at acoustic
guitars and banjos?

Thanks, in advance.

(Also, who else is flirting with this listing?)

this is an interesting one.

interning at a music house, I had an experience where a commercial track - of America the Beautiful was a gospel number, 12/8 feel, with screaming B3 organ and a full choir (well it was 4 excellent singers who all swapped parts and overdubbed en'mass to thicken it up). It was for a large well know fast-food American hamburger joint.

So I guess they are looking for interesting takes on those songs, and probably not Foo Fighters style, but probably not snores-ville either.

I thought about that and I know my version of Yankee Doodle is "different", but hopefully, whoever may like it.

Because it says traditional AND contemporary, and because contemporary is usually wierd, lol, at least in the new and different and shocking
contrast to traditional, I would say they are open to all interpretations.

*If that show, "America's Got Talent" which until this season had three "foreign" judges, is any indication of contemporary, lol, a British interpretation of American revolutionary songs might go over really well! ;)
