Ha, yeah, I can see that now. I had the wrong impression. Oh well, I did need lot's of these textures and whooshes and hits for trailer sound design so I'm cool with that.

Yes, going directly to the wave files works great. Now I can actually see what I bought.

I haven't had a chance to play with it but in kontakt I'm sure you can mess with the release time on the envelope so you don't have to hold the key down. You might have to open the hood but it's easy enough to do basic stuff like that. Then save the patch.
Will look forward to playing with it.

imagine if John Williams and Trent Reznor met at Bernard Hermann's for lunch and Brian Eno was the head chef!

that's a good tip on using the actual audio. its working here. I am auditioning in Kontakt and then importing the file.
Hey Mazz - I was thinking about what you were saying. How do you actually do that with the beats for example? Kontakt would theoretically auto-detect the tempo of the loop right?

I decided the best approach to getting this thing organized in a way that I can actually use was to make an Ableton Set out of all the sounds I liked. So I auditioned every wave file and when I found one I thought I could use, I dragged it into a session clip. So now I have one place that is easy to get to everything and it's all organized. I do sound design using Ableton's tools anyhow, so when it's time to write something using lot's of these kinds of things, I'll just open this template up and go from here.
Here's a screenshot of what the session looks like.

I think he was talking about the "hits". Some of these hits are really great, but then they have all this extraneous sound design that happens after the initial impact. If you load those samples up into Kontact, then you can edit out whatever extra stuff you don't want and then use the envelope to set the release so that the sample doesn't just cut off abruptly, like they do now when you release the key.andygabrys wrote:that's a good tip on using the actual audio. its working here. This is NOT a musical library. It's purely for sound design. But there are some good things here if you are doing say trailer pieces or horror. Or better yet, you're making your own movie and need sound design.

Well Kontakt has several different playback methods, Time Machine, Beat Machine, etc. I am no expert by a long shot on that stuff, but there's pretty good documentation on all of that by NI and others. I have kicked around in there and if you do use those beat slicing modes, you can actually drag the MIDI of the slices to your DAW just like Stylus or REX in Reason. There's a ton of stuff in Kontakt that I would be willing to bet almost no one uses except for the programmers. But it's worth digging around in there because you can breathe new life into some of these libraries by just messing with one or two parameters.andygabrys wrote:that's a good tip on using the actual audio. its working here. It's a shame to use factory patches when there's so much power in these apps that we all have access to. It's a good way to create your own "voice", even with the same materials that everyone else has. Joe Zawinul had sawtooth, square and sine waves and his synth sounds were so distinctive and expressive! Imagine if he was still around what he would do with Omnisphere!!
Sorry, I vectored off!................

Is this software package royalty free? I bought a package from Big Fish Audio last year only to find out that I couldn't really use the sounds in anything I plan to publish without getting a waiver from Big Fish Audio. Just wondering.

John, yes it is. Big Fish have their own products with a restrictive license but they also act as distributor for other brands who have their own EULA. Always check the home page of the product creator and review their license before purchasing.
