WHY DID THIS SONG MISS THE MARK?

Post by lucis » Mon Jul 30, 2012 7:25 am

Hi Guys I submitted to this listing below....was it the soundscape or the theme or both that missed the bullseye?

U120711SS
LISTING :
TAXI is preparing a compilation of SINGER-SONGWRITER SONGS for a TV SERIES. They're looking for CONTEMPORARY SONGS with a CURRENT INDIE or ALT sound a la Sufjan Stevens, Joshua Radin, Iron & Wine, Elliott Smith, Ryan Adams, Rufus Wainwright, Ingrid Michaelson, First Aid Kit, etc. MALE or FEMALE vocals are BOTH welcome. Lyric themes of ISOLATION, TRYING TO MAKE IT/GET BY, SELF- EXAMINATION/REFLECTION are preferred, but exceptional SONGS with other themes will also be considered. Love songs and romantic relationship songs are NOT needed however. Please provide lyrics!! SONGS with electro or synth elements are NOT a good fit for this project. Instrumentation must sound NATURAL, ORGANIC, and AUTHENTIC. Make sure your submission sounds like a real band or artist, and NOT like something that came from a music library. Instrumentals are NOT needed at this time, but keep them on hand in case the editor needs them. Lyrics must be PG-rated and Universal. As always, do NOT copy or rip off the referenced artist or their songs in any way, shape, or form! NO SAMPLES of other songs or artists can be incorporated into your track. The ESTIMATED fee for this license is $500-$1,500. Forwards will be sent DIRECTLY to the MUSIC SUPERVISOR so you will keep 100% of the fee and back end royalties if your SONG is licensed. You must own or control 100% of the Master and Composition rights to submit for this listing. Please do NOT submit songs that are already represented or being pitched by a publisher or music library, even if they are signed exclusively. Broadcast Quality is needed (excellent home recordings are fine). Please submit one to three Songs online. All submissions will be screened on a YES/NO BASIS by TAXI, no full critiques. ALL submissions must be received no later than Wednesday, July 11, 2012, 9:30AM. PDT TAXI #U120711SS

SONG SUBMITTED:
LOVELESS ON MARS : http://soundcloud.com/lucis-starling/loveless-on-mars

SCREENER NOTES : Not as contemporary or indie sounding as the artists requested for by the music supervisor. "They're looking for CONTEMPORARY SONGS with a CURRENT INDIE or ALT sound a la Sufjan Stevens, Joshua Radin, Iron & Wine, Elliott Smith, Ryan Adams, Rufus Wainwright, Ingrid Michaelson, First Aid Kit, etc."

Listener ID # 332

I'd be really grateful should any seasoned TAXI members who have a good history of forwards...take some time to share their insight on this one with me .... i guess i put to much emphasis on the part that read " exceptional songs with other themes will be considered" and not enough emphasis on "Love songs and romantic relationship songs are NOT needed however " .....right?
thanks for taking time to listen and help ! :) .

I think the overall sound and feel just isn't close enough to the style of the indie 'a la' artists. So for THIS listing, it didn't make it. Google the listed artists and listen to more examples.

BTW, Screener #332 always impresses me. You usually get feedback, even on the Y/N listings, and the comments are usually right on the money.

Best,
Casey
