So... I'm trying to redo a song I did almost 10 years ago. One of may projects I lost when a hard drive crapped out on me almost 10 years ago now.

Just back up your stuff... I CAN'T stress this enough. You DO NOT want to be where I am with this right now...

Publisher liked the song and the vibe it had and thought the vocal takes were quite good, but I need to bring the thing up to date. ie: the drums and anything else without ruining the vibe... yea.. good luck with that right?! I haven't told her that I don't even have the project anymore and I have to start from scratch haha.

Yeah, it can hurt loosing those tracks.
I've actually lost some songs in the process of backing up. I answered "yes" in a lighthearted moment, when the machine asked me if I wanted to overwrite the existing folder, not realizing I had unique stuff there. So, reeetracking here I cooome!

Yes, I had a crash some months ago and lost a bunch of files. When it happens, it's quite stressful and it takes your studio down for a few days.

I've got a strict backup routine now with eSATA and USB 3.0 drives. They are both super fast...so it's easy.

I've been trying to remember to backup everything as I go.

My logic board went on me last week, which took my RAM with it and they had to reinstall the OS so bye bye to everything on the main drive. Luckily I did have everything (cept one itunes purchase) backed up. Still a pain to reinstall everything though. Takes forever and some things need reauthorized.

I just dragged and dropped to another drive, but I've heard you can do a mirror drive. Anyone know how to do this? I'm a mac.

Yea, 10 years ago, back when I got Cakewalk's Home Studio 2002. I lost a lot of songs, but I had about 12 that were quite good songs, just poor MIDI quality instruments, that I need to redo. I do have the stereo masters for reference at least. Had them on a CD luckily.

Well I think the Mac OS comes with a full system and data drive back up. But I am not sure. I use W7 and I know for sure it does cuz it backs up my system and all data every night automatically.

That happened to me once. I simply pluged in new drives restored all my programs from the system image and valah! No re installing or nothing!

One of the reasons I'm a PC guy.

Why would you need that unless you are going to access your files remotely? Or I guess it would be good back up in case your house burns down.
