Tribute To My Mother

Post by peeyo » Tue Oct 16, 2012 9:54 am

Thought I would share this with y'all, since I feel so close with this community (closer than I do with some of my long time friends), must be that music thang ;)

Sadly, I lost my mom last week. So what did I do? I wrote a song for her (shocking ;) ). I wrote it last Tuesday, and as soon as i finished it, I got a call from my brother that she had taken a turn for the worse. I was lucky enough to make it to the hospital that night and play it for her (although she was unresponsive, I know she could hear it).
I credit her for my determination and my talents. She always encouraged my artistic endeavors and was extremely proud of my accomplishments. Her huge record collection was responsible for introducing me to music at an early age.

Anyway, this was probably the toughest, yet most satisfying song I've ever written and I thought I'd share it with y'all. I think everyone wants to be remembered when they finally leave this world, and I've made a promise to my mom that she will be remembered.
(Unfortunately, this song throws the whole universal lyric thing out the window, but whaddya gonna do :D ).

I wish everyone of you could have met her. She was hilarious

Peeyo, such a beautiful tribute to your mother, and what a lovely name. That is wonderful that you played it for her, I'm sure she loved it!
So so so sorry to hear of your loss, my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

Best,
Marc

Hi Paul,

I'm so, so sorry for your loss. She sounds like she was/is an amazing woman. (I believe this is just a chapter in our soul's journey.)

I lost my mother a few years back, and it's something that's hard to get over. One of the best ways I think you can continue to honor your mother is that when you think of her, remember her in her best days, when she was not ailing (sometimes this can be very challenging). When we lose someone, often this is so emotional and difficult, our memories tend to focus on the (hopefully relatively) short amount of time when they were ailing, compared to the many, many, many years when they were in good health, and all the great times you had with them then.

Your song is a lovely, sweet tribute - I'm certain she heard it, and loved it! Know that wherever she is, she can be proud she raised such a loving son, and I'm sure she will be checking in on you often, smiling down on you throughout your life, and as you continue on with your certain successes.

Big hug,

Juliet

I lost my mom in 2011, soon before I met you at the Rally in fact. Just lost my dog of 16 years in July. I feel for you, hang in there brother, life goes on...

Peace,

eo

Paul

Took a lot to do this at such a difficult time. The song is beautiful.

Losing a mom is just awful and it will take a long time to start the healing process.

There will be a time when thoughts of her will bring a big smile to your face.

Sincerely

Paul

You made your mothers name sing beautifully! My condolences (RIP). It's funny we make friends here with people we've never (yet) met, and still can feel like kindred spirits. I lost my mom in 2005, and used my musicianship, which I had almost given up, as a therapist. The songcabinet is a real inherited cabinet from my mom. So like Ethan, I bid you welcome to the lost mothers club. To love, acknowledge and remember is the mantra to success in this one, for sure..

Thanks for sharing!

Its really difficult when a loved one, especially a parent, leaves us and moves onward in their journey. I hope and pray for you that you see her transition as a gift of love to both of you! I am sure you will continue to write about her legacy.

Great track!

Cheers,
Vincent!

Peeyo I wish I could have met her, hilarious and encouraging, qualities I don't often see much in people anymore. The lyrics might not have been 'universal', but the sentiment is, and delivered so heart-felt and well recorded. Janice Elaine is very inspirational.

Thank you all for the kind words and for listening to the song. Ethan, I had no idea you lost your mom last year. God bless her and every mom living or deceased. :D
