Will this song work for the 80s synth instrumental listing

Post by joemetal » Sun Nov 18, 2012 12:13 am

I'm a long time lurker but this is my first time posting. Will this song work for the 80s synth pop instrumental listing? See details below.

http://soundcloud.com/lyricsandthings/question-of-love

'80s SYNTH POP INSTRUMENTALS in the style of Depeche Mode, Pet Shop Boys, Erasure, The Human League, etc., are needed by an Indie Music Library that with many placements in Film/TV/Advertising. QUOTING THE SOURCE: "We need instrumentals that sound authentic to the era but they don't need to be recorded in the era." In other words, recordings can be new but it should sound like it was written in the '80s. Be sure your instrumentals capture the sound of the '80s in terms of electronic themes and drum sounds. MID-to-UPTEMPO instrumentals only please. BUTTON ENDINGS are needed for this request. NO fade-outs. NO VOCALS - Instrumentals ONLY!

Thanks for the feedback,
Christina

I think the synth "sounds" sound good. You got the right idea for the bass line "sound".
The drum "sound" I find is too hip hop. Listen to People are People by
Depeche Mode and you'll see what I'm talking about. The drum sounds are
loud and very drum machine sounding. I think if you switch your drum
"sound" to something more 80's sounding you'll have a good track.

"Be sure your instrumentals capture the sound of the '80s in terms of electronic themes and drum sounds"

Best of luck!

Christina,

You should post more often. You are obviously very talented. I honestly don't know that all your elements in this track are on target, but it certainly sounds midi.

Since Steve posted ahead of me and he also was looking for feedback on a track for this listing, maybe you could let us know what DAW you used to produce this. And just out of curiosity, many times I produce tracks without my fingers actually touching a keyboard. I'm thinking that may be how you produced this?

Steve and Mark, Thanks for the feedback. I produced the track using Logic Express. I mostly used loops but did play some keyboard parts with a synth on a cheap Cascio keyboard that I have.

I will take another crack at the drum sound. I was trying to go for the more industrial drum sound ala "Everything Counts".

Thanks again,
Christina

I liked it. Same feeling about the drum track though although I heard it more acoustic drums but am having a hard time hearing 80s drum samples/machines in my head. I say change the drum sounds and give it a go.
