Introducing Myself

Post by fataldog » Tue Jul 28, 2009 7:16 am

Happy to have joined TAXI. I have been lurking for a couple of years. Finally decided to make the leap after having finished my first song and having a professional demo made.People call me "Doc", as I have a Ph.D. in Industrial Psychology with a special emphasis on marketing. My only experience in the music scene was years ago we had a little group that was very busy, we belonged to the union. But we are talking ancient history. In 1993 I wrote and copyrighted a poem/daily meditation titled "The Best Day of My Life." I was immediately picked up for publication by the "Chicken Soup for The Soul" folks and published in one of their books. Then it went on to be published in 4 other books, "The Book of Wisdom," "Heavenly Helpings" "Chosen To Remember" and "Nordies at Noon."Last year a young lady named Susan R. Jones got in touch with me and said, "Hey Doc, I've done some song writing, how about we make that poem of yours into a song?" I listened to some of Susan's other work and said, "Sure, why not?"So we got busy with the business of music and lyrical arrangement. We finished the song, "The Best Day of My Life" and filed for another copyright on this derivative creation; which we have received. We then had a professional demo done by an excellent pro-demo company, who had Buddy Mullins do the lead vocals. I sort of procrastinated about joining TAXI. Then I saw the listing below, and thought to myself., "Geez, is this a sign?" I mean come on, I write a song called "The Best Day of My Life" and someone is looking for a uplifting song about a "Great Day", a "New Day."I'll let y'all listen to the song and see if you think my song, "The Best Day of My Life" seems to fit the description of what they are asking for here.Being new to this songwriting stuff, I would really appreciate your opinions and critiques. Good, Bad and indifferent. I can take it, I'm a big ol' dog.ORIGINAL and CONTEMPORARY SINGER-SONGWRITER-Type SONGS with vocals, a la Colbie Caillat, Mat Kearney, etc., that are about "A GREAT DAY", "NEW DAY" and "NEW BEGINNINGS" are wanted by an established and successful Music Publisher based in L.A. who has secured tons of great Film/TV placements for many TAXI members and is branching out into the Advertising world as well. They are open to all tempos given that lyrically the song reflects thoughts of "a new day" and/or "new beginnings" - the themes must be distinctly apparent within the composition.. No melancholy songs about "wanting it to be a great day", songs should be positive in nature and not at all on the negative side. Male and/or female vocals are OK, but they DO NOT want covers. Songs must be originals. Vocal and instrumental presentations must be top-notch! Recordings need to be Broadcast Quality (great home recordings should be fine). They offer a non-exclusive, 50/50 split deal - you keep your original copyrights. Please submit one to three songs online or per CD, include lyrics. All submissions will be screened and critiqued by TAXI and must be received no later than Friday, August 14, 2009.TAXI # S090814SSThank you for your comments!Doc

Welcome DOC,I am also new to this site, I am finding the folks very friendly and very helpful.I just listen to your track, very easy to listen to and not a bad voice either you old dog. Very Cool indeed, may i suggest maybe some soft strings in the vocal highs, to comfort the melody. Just a thought. If i can help in anyway, drop me a aline.Glad to have you onboard.I wish you all the best and look forward to chatting with you on the forums.RegardsDomingoSheringo

Not me singing. The singer is Buddy Mullins, a very well know Christian country singer. If I was singing it would sound like an ol' dog howling. This was a professional demo that we had done. I could have had strings, and you are right, it would have sounded amazing, (I love strings!) But alas, I had a budget for musicians and I could not fit those strings into the budget.Thank you for commenting. And thank you for listening to my song.

Not terribly familiar with Colbie Caillat, and Last.fm drew a blank, but I think this might be more Contemporary Christian or Country Gospel, certainly it's positive, uplifting and broadcast quality, but the production style seems slightly dated, compared to the stuff I heard here:http://www.myspace.com/colbiecaillatYou certainly have a good song, though; it'll likely find (yet another) home.
