Submitting as a publisher

Post by vbvoice » Tue Jan 22, 2013 1:23 pm

Hi guys,

I'm new to TAXI and I had a quick question that I can't seem to find anywhere:

Can you submit a song to a listing for which you have the publishing rights? You're not the composer, but you own the song as it's publisher.

What's the protocol in that situation?

Thanks :)

hmm,

can't speak for every situation naturally, but it seems like this would rule out a number of listings where the listing party will assume the publishers share of the recording (music libraries etc.).

The ones that still would be open would seem to be those that go directly to music supervisors (usually the short term listings that come out via email) where its explicitly stated that the submitting party will retain all writers and publishers rights to the piece (and so you as publisher and your writer would retain your shares of the song).

Perhaps some of the uber experienced members will sound off and add more information to what I have written.

As far as I know, you cannot submit as a publisher. You need to be at least one of the writers on a track.

I suggest you contact Taxi, however, for more information and clarification.

Best,
:D Casey

From the FAQ Page:

"Q: Can I sign up as a publishing, management, or production company, and send in material for several people under my membership?
A: The rule of thumb is you can send in any music you've written or co-written, but you can't submit for friends. There are all kinds of messy legal problems that can happen when you do that.

If you've got a manager, you can join in your name and have them do the work of making the submissions for you."
