Hi everyone,
My name is Rocky. I've been a Taxi member for a couple of years now, but have just recently become serious about preparing music for film and TV. This is my first forum post. I'm in a hard rock band called River of Disdain, which is also the name on my Taxi page. I'm in the process of changing the page to my name since I own the copyright on the songs, and so I can gear myself more as a singer/songwriter, generally in the rock genre. I already have some of my new solo music up on my Taxi page.
I've had one song forwarded (Find Your Way) to a producer that is developing an up and coming artist. Other than that, lots of returns, but a ton of great lessons learned along the way. It's very inspiring to me to see so many people having such great success through Taxi, and I'm looking forward to continuing to learn so that I can have my music forwarded on a more regular basis.
So that's basically me. And I hate to be selfish and right off the bat and ask for help, but I could use some feedback on Listing #U130219PO if anyone is willing to hit me back. I was going to work with a group in the studio tomorrow to record one of the cover songs the listing is asking for, but I'm not sure how the licensing works for this. I know it says 100% Master rights are required - does that mean I need to obtain authorization from the original copyright owner to re-record the song? If so, is there an expedient way to accomplish that? I apologize for my ignorance. I'm working to get up to speed on all the licensing lingo and requirements, but I have not been able to find an explanation that seems to deal with the situation in this particular listing.
If someone has the time to help, I'd sure appreciate it.
Thanks!
Rocky

I would imagine that would be done later on, probably by the publisher if it gets signed. Go do your thing for now and worry about that later. Welcome aboard!

Thanks for the feedback eo! I really like your sound by the way. I've listened to a few of your forwards and really like them.

Hi Rocky,
Welcome aboard the Boards!
To answer your question, yes, generally (not always) the music publisher or music supervisor would deal with getting clearances.
However, the more important issue is for YOU to get signed "Work-For-Hire" agreements from all of the people (musicians, producers, etc.) involved in making the recording (okay, except for the studio receptionist and the janitor). It just needs to be a simple "form" with one or two paragraphs and examples can be found in places like the late, great John Braheny's excellent book, "The Craft and Business of Songwriting."
Hope that helps, and good luck with your songwriting!
