I like the song, the attitude, the general direction. It has the feel of something where you would want the lyrics clearly discernable. Production wise is "decent demo" I believe, guitars are a little overly bright sounding. Trying to recall who the referenced artists were, but if it is Alison Kraus oriented, looking for acoustic instruments with more of a bluegrass feel which this could easily be if rewritten.

The competition on here is sick sick sick.....:). For artist stuff the production has to be top notch. Perofrmances are solid but production falls short I think. A good habit I think if you are unsure is to run it through the peer to peer forums before actually posting. Which will be standard practice for me for awhile....

Hi I think this song has good energy. I also agree with a lot of the other Taxi members. I felt like I kept hearing a lot of great pre_choruses but then no pay off. I kept hoping to hear the words " Island Girl " shouted from the roof tops!!! but it never happened.

I don't think it would be hard to fix this song. I would get to the chorus maybe a little faster and hit them with the title " Island Girl " within about 25 seconds.

Anyhoo, just my 2 cents from an island boy ( Hoy Island ).

The whole "high bar" and "looking for hits" kinda rubs me the wrong way, mainly because:

1) As someone pretty much jokingly pointed out, there ARE no "low bar listeings."

2) Who out there is NOT looking for a hit? Even the so-called "album" tracks should be of "hit" caliber, if not always explicitly "hit" structure. As such, it seems superfluous in 99 percent of the listings I read.

3) What is the point of a screener (usually via copy-paste) reminding me in a critiqu that the listing is "LOOKING FOR HITS!!!" or "THE BAR IS VERY HIGH"? To write such things in a critique basically suggests, intentionally or not, that (a) the screener thinks I'm too naive, ignorant or downright stupid to know my song is NOT a "HIT" (b) that the screener thinks I ignored that the listing was "LOOKING FOR HITS!" and sent my song anyway, or (C) some combo of the above.

Hey, it's our 5 bucks, shouldn't we at LEAST be humored that we knew what we were doing when we sent our song? Sure, reject it and tell me the song is way off the mark; that's fine, that's cool.
All I ask is that I don't get treated like I MUST have missed something if I could have ever deluded myself into thinking my tune could be a "hit."

If someone wants to tell me, "I don't feel this is strong enough to be a hit, or this features a guitar instead of a mandolin, as requested." Well, those are solid criticisms. But to just copy paste in bold caps "THE LISTING WAS LOOKING FOR HITS!!!" - that tells me nothing, to be frank (because I already knew it), and it will always rub me the wrong way. Sorry, I can't help it.

Yep, it's pretty much a given that there are no 'low' or 'medium' bar listings, only 'high', 'very high', "super terrific high" etc. The amps go up to 11
