Contradictory new HH listing

Post by jaysoul » Fri Mar 15, 2013 3:30 pm

Fwiw. Another pretty contradictory listing. I know i should use my time more wisely :) but it's just that it becomes harder to submit to these listings if the descriptions are not matching the references.

Key ingredients:
"no loops"
"tracks must develop - no stagnant, looped beats"
and, as always of course, "no samples".

Of 3 reference songs 1 consists almost entirely of samples (Otis - pretty much an Otis Redding remix/cover song) and 1 doesn't develop at all AND is heavily leaning on samples (I Wanna Rock - same 1 bar sampled loop, except for chorus where just drumloop remains and a vocal sample is added. Both samples from hip-hop classic It Takes Two by Rob Base). So, only 1 out of 3 ( Clique) fits the bill. And yes, from that song I understand what this client probably wants. But still.

Any thoughts?

NEW LISTING -- HEAD-BOBBIN' HIP HOP INSTRUMENTALS (BEATS) in the style of "Clique" and "Otis" by Kanye West, "I Wanna Rock" by Snoop Dogg, etc., are needed by a TOP-SHELF Producer heading into the studio with a female Hip Hop Artist. QUOTING THE SOURCE: "The direction of this artist is a female Jay Z, so the production and direction of the tracks need to be competitive enough to work for an artist like him. Beats must be flipped creatively with no loops. Tracks need to have some bang. If it's not head bobbin it won't work. This artist has a lot of swag and she's confident, cocky, with lots of personality, so the tracks and production should showcase that character." Be sure the instrumentals you submit are DRIVING and UPBEAT similar to the referenced tracks. Your tracks MUST develop -- NO stagnant, looped beats. NO SAMPLES of other artists' work -- ORIGINAL material ONLY. DOWN-to-MIDTEMPO Instrumentals ONLY.

Haha yeah, I was gonna post about the Otis thing. It would be like asking for something that sounds like Paul's Boutique with no samples. Can I have a Pantera song with no distortion on the guitar next please?

In this case I usually stick to the description over the refs, I would probably pay more attention to Clique since it's the only one that remotely matches the listing.

I see what you are getting at guys...

Although those tracks contain samples, I think what they're looking for is that energy. whether that kind of energy or vibe can be captured without sampling.. well, that's up to you.

The same can be said for the apparent looping nature of the reference tracks. They do loop, but they ask you to do more with it, show off how you can flip variations from the main motif.

That's what I get from it and how I'll be approaching it, anyway..

good luck!

Owen.

thanks for the comments guys. agree with both of you (liking the beastie boys and pantera examples haha).
and yes, luckily the description clarifies it better than the refs.

now let's make some beats!
