huge development for 64 bit plugins from Universal Audio
big news today if you are total UAD plugin geek like me.
Universal audio released version 6.5 of the UAD software.
Included:
API 550a and 560 plugins
Softtube Vintage, Bass, and Metal Amp Rooms
the new LA-2 vintage limiter collection
and last but not least:
full support for 64 bit operation on PC and on Mac.
I have an older Mac Pro that has a lot of ram and drives in it but only runs 32 bit kernel (even through Logic will run in 64 bit mode). They did a few modifications to the beta 64 bit Mac software, and now it will run in OSX 10.6.8 or newer (used to be 10.7 or newer), and will run on machines with 32 bit kernel (used to be only newer macs that could boot in 64 bit kernel).
One less thing putting stress on the flakey 32 bit bridge in logic when running in 64 bit mode.
I have already installed it and its running great.

Re: huge development for 64 bit plugins from Universal Audio
I am in shock at how huge this is.
ya know that this 32 bit bridge in Logic is flakier than mom's apple pie. it goes down in a heartbeat. some number of versions ago (we are on Logic 9.1.8 now) they made a tweak so at least it didn't crash Logic completely, but only the 32 bit bridge would crash.
This as better than it was before, but when the 32 bit bridge crashed, it would force Logic to reload all the VI's that were hosted in RAM memory space - EVEN IF THEY WERE 64 BIT PLUGINS like Play or Kontakt. If I was working on something with significant VI load, I was losing probably 20 % of my work time having it crash and waiting for it to reload.
Now that UAD is 64 bit, the 32 bit bridge doesn't even start up - its not even open as an application. So I am guess it won't be crashing. Happiness!!!

Phew. I feel your pain, and relief. I am new to having built a brand-new everything, Logic, etc. I have had my share of Logic crashes the past 6 months. And why does Logic have to authorize all of the AU plugins every darned time you open the app? I mean, I have a 4.2 ghz machine wtih 32 gig ram, 4-core, and this take some serious time. silly, me thinks. I'm ranting, but at least you're not! (I'm more grateful, though, for all of the tools).

Cool...it should be pointed out that those plug-ins are not "included", they are newly released available for test drive/purchase...
I have to say I never had any problems using 32 bit UAD plug-ins with the bit bridge in Cubase, but glad to hear 64 bit is making your life easier...

Hey Matt.
Yes those new ones are test drive plugs. But the main news is that the entire suite of plugs is now 64 bit compatible. If your bridge in Cubase doesn't crash, that's awesome! But on my setup, logic's bridge does often. I'm not the only one, there are many gripes about the logic 32 bit bridge. Who knows, maybe it's difficult to trouble shoot - but in the meantime, the only answer is to relieve the load on it -UAD stuff was the last plugs I have that weren't 64 bit (that I use frequently), so it's made things better.
Sorry if I said something that was misleading about those new plugins.
Best,
Andy

No problem, it's not misleading to long time UAD users who know the drill with the new software updates...just clarifying for potential newbies...
I'm excited they are modeling API products now...

hey patty - Logic normally only does this validation of Audio Units once, definitely not every time you start it up. Perhaps there is another problem causing this?pboss wrote:And why does Logic have to authorize all of the AU plugins every darned time you open the app? Or do you mean various individual plugins keep asking for authorisation - which would indicate you're maybe running a lot of "unofficial" or demo plugins?
best

VST bridge in Cubase is notoriously unreliable. Most users go to Jbridge for that function.jonathansorensen wrote:That is big, . . . .VST bridge in Cubase crashes and freezes a lot too . . hmm .
