Quirky song " Up here In My Room"

Post by songmaster » Thu Apr 18, 2013 5:17 am

I just thought I would post this song to get peoples reaction. It's kind of like easy listening music for Norman Bates. If anyone wants to hear it, I have a cartoon made of the song on my brothers and my site HOYBOYS.NET. Sometimes, you have to get silly, so if you do go to this site, please remember that a little alcohol goes a long way!

Up Here In My Room

I'm the kind of guy
Who stays up half the night
Eating greasy things
And reading Stephen King
And I'm happy to be
Up here in my room

My mother says I'm shy
For a man of thirty five
Says, I should find a girl
But it might upset my world
Cause I'm happy to be
Up here in my room

Chorus

There was a time, I use to dream
Of stardom on the silver screen
I can see the cameras flash
My picture in the tabloid trash
But then I'd have to take a bath

You know what's real obscene
Is pizza turning green
But it's kind of nice
There's some color in my life
And I'm happy to be
Up here in my room

I haven't been to work
Since that day I went berserk
They said they understood
That a rest would do me good
Now I'm happy to be
Up here in my room

Chorus

There was a time I use to dream
Of stardom on the silver screen
I can see the cameras flash
My picture in the tabloid trash
Boy that pizza gave me gas

My mothers getting bent
Cause I'm late again with rent
She's always at my door
It's getting harder to ignore
Still, I'm happy to be
Up here in my room
But I think I'll have to move
.....The body soon.

Quirky is right, but it made me laugh.

But I don't buy that this guy was ever interested in being on the silver screen. In the tabloids, yes. On the screen, no. I'd take a look at that.

I don't think the punch line is necessary, but if that's what you want, I'm not going to argue.

I did buy it about the silver screen and liked it. It certainly is an amusing song and you do laugh its so well done. A gifted writer put this lyric together.

Thank you Inga and Mike for having a look at this one. I would never seriously put it on my Taxi site because I can not imagine a category for it, but I find that sometimes when I write outside the box, it helps with more serious writing..I know the body under the bed was off the wall,,,but then again you have to know Bernard ( a character my brother and I invented ).

Anywho, thanks again.

Songmaster,
I love quirky /fun stuff! And this is definitely that!! I do have several suggested subtitutions though. Of course, they're just that ... suggestions .... Please feel free to sweep or keep as you see fit.

"..I know the body under the bed was off the wall,,," It was a Murphy bed ... right? :D

With 'Murphy's Law' ... he'd never know ... when that body would fall! :D

(Actually he would ... at the worst possible moment!)

Hi Steve Thanks for that, I immediately laughed when I saw 45 instead of 35. All of a sudden I pictured Ernest Borgnine. I don't know if you remember the movie "Marty". I guess if you are still living with your mother at 45 you have become a care giver.

Anyway, thanks for the suggestions. This song has been up on the web for many years so it might be a little late for a rewrite, but it sure was fun to write!

PS I just got the joke about the Murphy bed!!!
