So where else could you get such support and advice if you leave Taxi?
I agree with all of the above – you are very close. Andy hit all the nails on the head (he usually does). I would add that the mantra around these parts is "write, submit, forget, repeat". Have a 5-year plan and review it every year, so it's ALWAYS a 5-year plan. Every year you will have learnt more.
How many demos could you send out in a year (that will likely never be heard, btw) for $200? Be patient and focused and keep doing what you do. Personally, I often forget that, where Taxi's concerned, I am a supplier for a demand, not the artist. By all means try different routes by which to pitch, but use Taxi as the measure of one worldwide, albeit conservative, market.
Power to you, bro.
Nick

My opinion it's also numbers. YOu have to make a plan to write a set number of songs per week to make this work. Minimum one every 2 weeks, although that I now consider light. Even with those of us with a full time job, 1-2 more like it.

I'm in pretty much the same boat as you, with all of my submissions returned since my joining 18 mos ago. I went to the Road Rally this last year and the light really came on for me! There were so many people in attendance that it's no wonder that music supes, screeners, and everyone else who has a say in passing on your music can be as choosy as they want to be. There seems to be an unlimited amount of "composers" creating music today, which raises the bar every time a forward gets picked up. Hope springs eternal.
There's another problem here that I would like to address, as did Michael at the Road Rally.
I find it very easy to compose to picture when I get the opportunity. I love what music does to create a mood when matched with images. It's really why I like doing this type of composition work, whether it's serious "art" music or an indie horror film like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p9K3O2B9 ... demail-new
It feels like bowhunting in the dark trying to compose to a listing, even more so when the examples are so vague when compared to the listing requirements.
I realize the legal problems of this approach, so I see why this will never happen. But we can dream.

Paul
For me, a member of one month today... I have been inspired to write a couple of tunes because of the taxi listings, one of which will go on my album. I wouldn't have tracked it otherwise(wrote it just for the listing). If I was trying to be a pro golfer I'd have to have a coach to watch/listen/inspire/correct me along the way. For the $500+ I dropped on Taxi, I have hundreds of coaches in the Peer to Peer. Kinda how I look at it, some success with placement should come along hopefully as confirmation to eliminate self doubt, but then I do it because I am happiest when I'm working on mixes that feel good anyways!
I did listen thru your catalogue and you have wonderfully emotional tunes. Have you tried to have someone else sing your songs. In my opinion, your vocals don't hit the high bar of vocals I figure that are needed(I say that as I also really don't consider mine good enough). My album that I am finishing up right now has half of the songs being sung by voices that are stronger than mine. (by friends who are willing to work for percentages).
I also bring in percussionists as that is my other weakpoint.
On my first listen your drums seem to not add the movement that are worthy of your tunes. A good percussionist can bring that to the table.
I wish you sucess and I hope you take this in a positive light as that is how I mean it!!!
Sincerely,
Cass

Theres a little irony in your request, asking competitors to convince you to keep competing
