70s Disco funk returns ???
2 major returns from screener who
can't recognize their own references:(
TRACK -Suga Babe
Comments - stylistically off target
This is a little "old school" compared to my references.
Really Hello ???????
Track 2 -Lets turn it loose
Comment :
This is very KC for sure but I think it might sound better if the vocals weren't quite so hot.
Listing:
NEW LISTING -- '70s STYLE DISCO SONGS in the broad range of Donna Summer, The Bee Gees, KC and the Sunshine Band, etc., are needed by the Owner of a Music Library that has had tons of Film/TV placements with TAXI members' music. Quoting the company's owner: "I'm looking for Disco and Disco influenced music reminiscent of the CLASSIC '70s Disco hits. Songs need to have a good strong Disco beat, and be able to add plenty of impact to a scene." Your submissions should be FUN and ENERGETIC! If your song doesn't make listeners want to get up and DANCE, PARTY, and do the HUSTLE, don't submit it! They're looking for UPTEMPO songs with an AUTHENTIC sounding '70s vibe. Songs recorded back in the day, as well new recordings that sound authentic to the era will BOTH be accepted. FEMALE and MALE vocals are both OK. Your lyrics should focus on love, longing, attraction, etc. Broadcast quality is needed (excellent home recordings are fine.) And, as always, don't rip off or copy the referenced artists in any way, shape, or form. You must own or control 100% of your composition and master recording. Please submit one to three songs online or per CD, include lyrics. All submissions will be screened on a YES/NO BASIS - NO FULL CRITIQUES FROM TAXI

I'll say it again,What? How can that be? What do they mean old School? It doesn't get any older School in Disco than the referenced Acts. They invented the freaking Genre. The screener Slipped his Disco.

Re: 70s Disco funk returns ???
HOLY CRAP JOHN!!
The only thing I can think of is that these tracks were way too good to be 70's disco. I mean it sounds like what the 70's producers wished they coulda sounded like.
Actually, the track "Let's Turn It Loose" started to cross over (almost) to 80's Prince. But, Dude! These were funky tight and outta sight!
I wonder if the "tightness" might have been a problem... The a-la's on this listing are heavy with the vox fx and unison vocals. (except donna summers) but as far as your vox on "Let's Turn It Loose" maybe the "better if the vocals weren't quite so hot" comment had to do with the lack of unison stuff????? Geez!
Anyway, bummer... these songs are f(censored)g awesome. I wish I could add them to my Spotify "Alltime Fav's" playlist.
Russell
P.S. OH CRAP! My wife just walked into the room dancing... she said "70's Disco... Disco Inferno... burn baby burn"
ok, she's walking outta the room still dancing... gonna follow her upstairs now...g'nite

Re: 70s Disco funk returns ???
It's a rare situation but I'd definitely ask for a re-screen on this one. I hadn't listened to the other one but regarding "Suga Babe", I think that just on the strength and merits of the track itself I'd ask for a re-screen at least for that one. The comment is kind of nebulous. I would be interested to know who the "old school" groups are that the screener is referring to regarding 70's disco.
I'm not a music historian but to me, these "ala's" are the old school guys/gals. I can't think of a "Chuck Berry" or "Fats Domino" of disco that set the foundation for these ala's. They pretty much set the foundation for everyone else according to my hazy recollection of the 70's.

Re: 70s Disco funk returns ???
Thanks guys , it's very much appreciated to see the same opinions for this .
I take this one very seriously, I have written to Taxi about it.
Thank you Dave for your inquisitiveness and information Similiar to mine
"Suga babe " review I really won't accept.
The other track "lets turn it loose " which was a Kc/WildCherry
forward a cpl days ago
is now a return " for screener comment " Definitely Kc, "but vox are too hot"...
????
So from the same screener for my 2 songs
comes these "Nebulous" reviews
That Imo the screener
is not familiar with this Genre.
Thanks Russell: your wife got it ...Disco inferno / Kc....
she should be a screener.
But glad to help you out

You nailed it.
You know it, we know it.
Dust yourself off and move on.
Lord knows, there's a mountain of dust behind me.
Tracks like yours always get signed eventually.

I remember those tracks, they were great. Get the rescreen if you can. Otherwise find another outlet for them, I would try to get those tracks out there, they're really good.

Re: 70s Disco funk returns ???
Have to agree with Dave. These need a second listen.
To Russell's comment the production on a lot of 70's disco sounded pretty amazing, so I don't think the tracks sounding TOO good is the screeners problem.
Good luck.
