April Dispatch forwards, should I give to other library now?

Post by pepeluis » Wed May 29, 2013 4:04 pm

Hi Folks,
would appreciate any thoughts please.
I had 3 instrumentals forwarded to a dispatch listing in early April. I was intending to include them in a bundle of pieces to send to a Library who I had made contact with through Taxi and who was interested in material of that genre (Latin).
When the Dispatch listing came up I figured I had the stuff ready so may as well submit and just write some more for the first Library but my question is whether to leave these tracks in the hands of the Dispatch listing library (have no further info on them) or now give them to my previous contact? If the Dispatch is for fast turnarounds does that mean they rejected the songs as I haven't heard from them yet?.
I know it is impossible to second guess this and the original library interest (who signed one piece) took 2 years to get in touch after a regular forward from Taxi!. Just wondering what experience other may have had. Many thanks in advance.

If you have someone who wants to sign them I would sign them up, a bird in hand and all that. If the library from the dispatch listing gets ahold of you, you can explain that those tracks have since been signed but you'd be happy to produce more tracks for them in that style. That's what I would do...

Good luck!

+1 ... Almost always go with the bird in hand. Forwards may or may not turn into deals. It's better to get your music working for you out there as soon as you can.

thank you so much (Casey and Eo) for your replies. It really helped me focus and now it's clear to me what I should do. I was pressuring myself to get another couple of tracks done to send to the 1st interested library when I have what I need in my hands already! Your advice really helped me get things in perspective. Thanks again.
