Cue Sheets

Post by jerryjennings » Fri Jun 14, 2013 8:45 am

I have three cue sheets showing up on my BMI registered works page. I'm wondering if that's the only place to see what's been played, and for how long, and how many times. I don't seem to get the information that quickly there, and there's not much of it. Is there some site that is more informative?

Thanks, J

I'm with BMI and I get my placement info every quarter, the next one coming up june 22 I believe. I have a few random cue sheets show up in my catalog and I don't quite understand it because I get way more placements than what show up as cue sheets on the list, maybe someone else can clue us in?

But if you're getting placements they will show up on your quarterly statement, along with a check!

I dunno bout your guys, but in my BMI profile, the only stuff that shows up as registered off cue sheet is usually some music that I have created for a production company and didn't register it myself. If its a library usually the library has already registered it, so its unlikely that it would every show up on a "registered by cue sheet" kinda deal.

BMI issues quarterly statements which show your plays in pretty exacting detail, along with payment. The next distribution date is a week from today (6/21) and you can find their distribution schedule on their website.

*Make sure* you are set up for direct deposit because there is a threshold below which they will not issue a paper check.

BMI does not display cue sheets that may have come in from production companies which contain your music on their website the way ASCAP does. What you *may* see are "cue sheet registrations". This happens when BMI receives a cue sheet with a title credited to you which is not in your registered catalog. BMI's computer will then generate that title and add it to your catalog, and it will say that the "source" of this title is a "cue sheet". This happens if a company (or you) fails to register your music before it is used and entered into a cue sheet, or the title is misspelled in the cue sheet.

Since this is usually pretty rare, the few 'cue sheet registrations' you may see in your account are not representative of your actual reported plays that you will get paid for.

Hope this makes sense...
