Wrongful return!!
OK, so I just got my critique for listings S130409PO and S130416PO where Listener ID # 368 stated that my track "Hearsay" didn´t get forwarded because it had male instead of female vocals. The only problem is, it has female vocals!!! And I don´t see how it could be mistaken for a male vocal. Listen for yourselves here:

Anyway, these are 2 major listings that could make my career, and I really need this to be put right by TAXI. I´ve sent an email to Member Services aswell and I´m hoping maybe someone from TAXI sees this post in the forum.
There are a few different emails on the TAXI contact page, does anybody know the best and fastest way to get in touch with TAXI?

You can call Taxi at the 800 number at top of this page or send an email to headscreener _AT_ taxi dot com. They will look into it, I'm sure.SoulfulSwede wrote:OK, so I just got my critique for listings S130409PO and S130416PO where Listener ID # 368 stated that my track "Hearsay" didn´t get forwarded because it had male instead of female vocals. Keep in mind that no single listing (or even 2) will likely ever make or break your career.
Best of luck,

Hi Casey,
thanks for the reply. Of course a single listing won´t make my career, I just mean it´s very rare to get a forward to a major recording artist. And to see the critique and know that it should have been forwarded is just extremely frustrating.
Hope I can get in touch with TAXI and see if anything can be done.

Hey, Johan,
I feel your frustration. I have asked this question on Taxi TV, and it seems that these days, especially in the ultra-conservative American market, when pitching to an artist, that artist's people want to be able to simply take off the lead vocal and have the singer slot right in. While I believe you that this is a female singer, it sure sounds like a guy! Maybe the only problem is that the key is too low for her timbre. It feels like perhaps the song would suit a singer with a younger, more girlie, timbre – no disrespect to your vocalist, btw; she's clearly a good singer. Just keep writing and pitching, buddy, you obviously know what you're doing, and you'll have your moment in the sun. I hope you get some resolution/explanation from the powers that be at Taxi HQ.
I read your biog and I thought I was reading my own. We have the same primary influences, and we're both aiming in the same direction. Maybe I'll see you at the top.
Nick

It's not always that literal, though I've heard of situations where the artist does ask for the backing track to do a test run. What it really comes down to, is A&R folks and artists are not going to use their imagination very much. They need to hear something that sounds like what it would if the artist did actually record it. Many female artists will not be able to envision it if it has a male vocal and vice-versa.nick.moxsom wrote:I have asked this question on Taxi TV, and it seems that these days, especially in the ultra-conservative American market, when pitching to an artist, that artist's people want to be able to simply take off the lead vocal and have the singer slot right in.
It's sooooooooo competitive out there. If you are serious about pitching a song for a particular genre and gender, it's best not to start out with any strikes against you. If your song is TRULY a "10", maybe you can get away with more but how many of us REALLY write songs that are a "10"?
Best,
