What is 10% own\control? What is singer\songwriter #S130730S

Post by NEILPH » Sun Jul 28, 2013 4:14 pm

I just submitted to listing #S130730SS but maybe I was wrong.

My song certainly fits the listing description. But what exactly is "singer\songwriter". I don't perform publicly. I [try to] get other people to perform the songs I write.

And I'm not completely sure what TAXI mean by this phrase you use in listings, "You must own and control 100% of your master and composition rights".

I wrote the melody and lyrics of the song I submitted. I have it registered with APRA. My music lawyer prepared an agreement to give 25% of the royalties to a person who has written the chords and arrangement.

Do I still qualify to submit under the above-mentioned description?

It sounds like the other person here is a co-writer.

To make signing agreements like you might get from a music library such as this simpler, my suggestion is to make sure your agreement specifies that that person owns 25% of the composition and 25% of the master recording. As long as this person is willing to add their signature to any deals you are presented, you *SHOULD* be OK. (Educated guess based on what I'm reading here)...

When the co-writers/co-owners own and control 100% of everything together, it's usually not a problem as long as everyone is willing to sign.

Thanks Casey. I'm pretty sure my 25% guy when sign.
