I have some questions about the ad included below. If anyone from Taxi can answer these, it would be most appreciated. Especially if you have heard the temp track we're working against.
In terms of the musical style, I boil this one down to:
Get a toy piano/vibes sound and write a piece that relies heavily on arpeggios. Tempo and stylistic ballpark of the Bach cello suite.
So I listened to the reference piece, which is in 6 movements. I focused on the first movement, as I am guessing that's what they are thinking of.
Can anyone from Taxi confirm this?
The piece has a fair amount of harmonic movement (i.e. interesting chord changes, modulations. Is that appropriate for this listing? Or do we want to keep it simpler?
The piece has quite a bit of melodic complexity. Is that appropriate? or do we want to keep it simpler?
The tempo of the performance varies quite a bit. Is that appropriate? or is a solid, even tempo going to work OK?
I am guessing that, (because this is for an ad company), they want something pretty simple - harmonically, melodically, and tempo-wise. However, all of those elements add to the feel (style) of the piece, and I'm wondering if maybe what they really want is a very sophisticated, passionate piece of music played with a different sound. (?)
Also - to what degree do they want this to sound like a music box/cuckoo clock? I think that most any classical piece played on the sound described would not only remind one of those things, but would sound exactly like them. Are they looking for something that sounds exactly like a music box? or something that only has a hint of that?
Thanks
A-List NY AD AGENCY needs a Light, Whimsical INSTRUMENTAL TRACK for a Web Commercial that could migrate to TV.
They need a really simple, fairly stripped-down track that could either be keyboard OR acoustic guitar-based. Arpeggiated, MID-to-Up-Tempo (but not TOO Up-Tempo) Tracks that feel hopeful, intelligent, and slightly dreamy or whimsical are the order of the day.
Check out Bach's Cello Suite #1 to get yourself in the tempo and stylistic ballpark: http://bit.ly/19CDjWM
Now, imagine that done with a keyboard sound that's a hybrid of a kid's toy piano and mid-octave bells or a vibraphone. You could also do it with an acoustic guitar... maybe a classic guitar? They need Instrumentals that are at LEAST two-minutes long with a buttoned ending. If you track is longer (which might be a good idea), they will edit it down. NOTE: At 43 seconds into the spot, there's a little bit of an emotional lift, and we think introducing a very simple cello part could work nicely for that. If you've got another idea for a second instrument, go for it! That part doesn't necessarily have to remain in the whole rest of the track.
As we listened to the temp track, there was something that reminded us of what you'd hear coming out of a music box with a ballerina twirling on top, or possibly what you might hear coming from a cuckoo clock as the doors swing open and those little people pop out every hour on the hour.

Same questions I have! Who knows... I almost feel like I'm throwing away $5 for fun!... But anyway, I came up with a piece that to me if more of a children's type music box dance thing. We'll see....

Re: U130827IN, toy piano Bach - how complex?
I sent in 2 variations on this. I sent one that is a standard acoustic piano with a little cello, and then I did the same piece with added/mixed electronic toy piano, etc. If any of you want to listen to this and give me feedback I would appreciate it. The 2 pieces are named Electronic Ballerina Dance, and Ballerina Piano Suite. Since I am new to the forums I don't know how to link you to my music on Taxi, so if you go to www.soundcloud.com/waddyp and check out these 2 pieces, I have them posted there also. Thanks
