Having been at this for awhile, people very frequently ask me for recommendations on what gear they should purchase if they're just starting a home studio, or if they need to update an existing setup on the cheap. So, I put together a site/blog with a list of quality stuff you can get for $99 or less. None of this is cheap junk... it's all high-quality, tried-and-true stuff that can be found in tons of pro studios and live rigs around the world.

Recommendations fall into categories like headphones, guitar/bass, MIDI controllers, software, and microphones. Everything is available on Amazon too, which is very convenient for lots of folks.
If you have any suggestions for good <$100 gear, let me know! Otherwise, enjoy the list - I'll be continuously updating it as I have the opportunity to try more gear myself. In particular, I really do recommend that everyone have a set of AKG K240 headphones, an SM57 and SM58, a couple good mic stands & filters, Auralex treatment, and a pocket recorder.
