Loop libraries....
Starting to see where some good loop libraries (like the nine volt audio) can be very inspirational, even the ones that feature my main instrument , to write tracks and songs around. So the question comes in 3 parts: Can we recommend some good looping sites? Are there any caveats or things to be aware of when using purchased loops in your tracks? I could see myself using pieces here and there, but does anybody have some examples where they may have used several parts or even some tracks composed entirely from loops? Thanks. My main loop player BTW would be Stylus RMX.

Re: Loop libraries....
There's a very good (and large) loop/virtual instrument loop library called Big Fish Audio (www.bigfishaudio.com). There is one thing to be aware of when using any of their loops that contain what they call a "construction kit". These have a licensing agreement that says that you cannot use them in a piece of music that is going to be placed into a music library. Now, why that is, I have no idea but that's the way they've got it. They do have a thing where you can write and get a waiver or whatever from that so it's not a set-in-stone kind of thing. I can't speak for *everything* else but this little restriction is the only BIG problematic restriction that I've ever come across.
The most common licensing "restriction" isn't really a restriction at all but you can't use a loop by itself without any other instrumentation. It's usually that they want one or two other things going on so that the loop isn't running by itself. That keeps people from making tracks of music using nothing but the pre-canned loops.
Anyway, hope that helps

I think the Big Fish Angle is kind of the same as your second point Dave.
you could use nothing but Big Fish loops in a song - i.e. the construction kit. but there wouldn't be anything original in that. In fact I knew somebody who did that. it was a vocal song, but guess what the instrumental version sounded like. oops.

Their actual licensing prohibits use of ANY kind in a song that will be in a music library...andygabrys wrote:I think the Big Fish Angle is kind of the same as your second point Dave.

This license does not allow you to include the samples, whether unmodified or as part of a derivative work, in any music library or sample library product. However, a "special use" license may be requested from Big Fish Audio, free of charge, if you wish to use this product as part of a musical work intended for use with music libraries (some conditions apply, and Big Fish Audio retains the right to refuse any request that does not meet those conditions).
I have no idea what their thinking is and I'm guessing that there's boatloads of potential licensing issues out there. Anyone with any of their loops in a music library under any condition without their express permission is in violation of their licensing agreement and in turn then the composer would be in some danger of violating the licensing agreement with their music library.

Re: Loop libraries....
Weird that they would do that.I would likely want that question adressed BEFORE I bought the loops. I got some rral interesting ideas goiing using one of the nine volt Big Bad guitar loops they have in a sample pack. Am using their action toms in one now in combunation with some loops from rmx expansion packs. But using ine or two in a track, not much different then using drum loops. But for me just composing strictly from loops, not something I am interested in doing.

Regarding Big Fish. I bought a cd from them and requested a licence for library music. It took quite a long time to get but got it in the end.

Re: Loop libraries....
Asked and was told they can issue a special use license for many of their products, just let them know. Good sounding loops pn their page.
