How long before I hear back?

Hey guys,I've been a member for a couple months now and I've been reading the forums online, but I just created an account today.I have a question that you may hear a lot from newbies, but I tried searching the forum for the answer and had no luck:I submitted to a listing on May 4th (over 4 weeks ago) and I have yet to hear back from Taxi on whether I was forwarded or not. And yet for another listing I submitted to on May 12, I heard back in nine days!What is the meaning of this?! I figure it just means that they had a whole lot of submissions for the May 4th listing (crime drama instrumentals), but not so many for the May 12th one (smooth jazz. The smooth jazz tune was forwarded BTW )Anyone else submit to the same listing and hear back yet?-Bobbyhttp://www.taxi.com/bobbycressey

It can sometimes take a month for them to screen all submissions for a listing. They don't release critiques or results until all have been completed. Sit tight, you'll get something back soon.

Thanks for the response jonathanm. I didn't want to come off as bitter with the first post and set a bad vibe. I am very stoked to be a part of TAXI and reading all the forums I am blown away by all that everybody has to say -- lots of great folks here I can tell.This waiting to hear back has got me all worked up though! It's to the point where sometimes I'll load the TAXI A&R cam and try to will the screeners to listen to my songs! Hi Bobby,Welcome to the board. As others have said "this is a hurry up and wait" type of business. The best thing to do is submit your song and forget about it as you go on to writing new material. Remember that even if your song is forwarded, you might still have to wait to hear back from the listing company. Many times they don't call back and when they do, it may be weeks, months, or even years. I had a library place one of my songs 2 years after I had submitted it to him. Best to ya.

I was wondering if when they said 10-30 days TAXI meant you'd definitely hear back in 30 days and even at that extreme it's a rare thing. To know that it sometimes takes up to 6 weeks will bring my blood pressure down a bit. (Although it won't stop me from crossing my fingers every time I fire open the email).Again I had just gotten confused when I heard back on the Smooth Jazz listing a cool 10 days after I submitted it, but have been waiting 30 for this other one. I guess that's just the way it goes sometimes.

Tell me this, had you heard anything from the company when they decided to add your piece to the library, or did you only hear about it when your song actually got PLACED on a show? Don't you have to get a contract worked out when the decide to add your piece to the library? What if you'd done something else with that song in the meantime?

Actually I only found out it was placed when the publisher called me to see if I had received my check from BMI (which I got the following day). Apparently he had licensed a number of songs to a TV network back in 2007 (mine included). The network didn't start using some of the material until mid 2008. I've been working with this library for several years now and I think I may have signed the song back in 2006.

You will then sign a contract and it will be added to their library (eventually).If your piece gets placed, you might find out about it from the library but there is a good chance that you won't know about it until you get a PRO statement. Each library is different. Generally, I don't think that it matters too much whether you have done something with a piece or not before signing the contract (assuming you still own the rights to it and they can pitch it free and clear). It would really depend on what your contract with the library was and what you have committed the piece to previously.HTH-Steve

Thanks for the info guys.So this may be venturing into the realm of 'Business' which should be in a different part of the forum, but I have to ask because I've been wondering: aren't you supposed to get a licensing fee when your song gets synced? I thought you were and so I was surprised to find out that the first you'd know about a tune being used was through your PRO. Or do you get $$ when the library signs your song.OR....does the library get the sync fee and that's how the library makes money? If so then darn!!And responding to the original subject of this thread....I just got my results today from TAXI - a 3/3 forward! I'm psyched and haven't waited this hard for something in awhile. Gotta write submit repeat now!!
