D131118IN - would a collage be appropriate?

Post by ckbarlow » Wed Nov 13, 2013 9:26 pm

RE: This listing, emphases added:
Music Supervisor at a Network in charge of multiple TV shows needs WELL ROUNDED COMPOSERS who can create CONTEMPORARY INSTRUMENTAL TRACKS for current Reality TV placements. Stylistically, you must be able to create diverse sounding tracks in multiple genres. They need a composer who can create instrumental cues that you’d here on a typical Reality TV show: Light Rock; Light Electronic; Dark, Ominous Orchestral Cues; Fun, Upbeat Dance/Pop, Swampy Southern Acoustic Cues, etc.
...
Cues/tracks should be 1 to 2 minutes in length, and we strongly suggest buttoned endings. All deals will be negotiated on a song-by-song, case-by-case, composer-by composer basis directly with the Network. Broadcast quality is needed (excellent home recordings are fine). You must own or control 100% of your Master and Composition rights to submit for this pitch. Please submit one to three instrumentals online or per CD. All submissions will be screened on a Yes/No basis. No full critiques. Submissions must be received no late than Monday, November 18th, 2013 by noon (PDT). TAXI #D131118IN
So... we're pretty much looking at submitting three tracks to even approach the diversity requested; plus it looks like she wants the signable pieces, not existing tracks from our catalogs. Hmm.

Much of the listing shouts "Collage showing your diversity!" and other parts of the listing indicate otherwise. Not sure what to make of this.

Hi CK
I wouldn't submit a collage unless you check with Taxi first and ask if that's OK. *Maybe* they'll let you combine multiple cues into one track for submission. Of course, the longer your cues are (e.g. closer to 2 minutes), the less that is probably desirable.

You are not really limited to 3 tracks. That limit is only per single submission/payment. You can do multiples of those, e.g. submit three, pay, submit another 3, etc. Of course, that gets expensive so collage-ing would be more cost efficient.

BTW, if they DO let you submit a multiple cues in a track, I recommend you make that clear in the track titles just in case such as "Dance/Pop (Two 60 second cues)".

Warmest,
:D Casey

I thought I *was* asking TAXI by posting the inquiry here -- is that not the case?

I'm thinking cost-efficiency (having just gotten home from the Rally -- LOL...).

Seriously: I'm a very logic-driven person and to my mind, a listing that requires us to show diversity -- and names, what, five different genres? -- would logically ask for a 2 or 3-minute collage. I'm baffled that it doesn't. "Show us diversity" followed by "send us buttoned individual tracks." Weird.

Hey, so if I did want to ask TAXI about this listing, what's the best avenue - a particular email address, phone #, etc. ...?

Yes, I see the problem here, CK. And additionally I might add... if you send five separate submissions in five different genres, they will have to be split into two batches... and for the Music Supe to hear your diverse abilities, ALL FIVE will need to be forwarded... :o

I think this warrants a phone call to Taxi. Since you are interested in efficiency I think a conversation with a human would be your best bet on this.

Good Luck

Russell

Edit: the number found at the top of taxi.com should do the trick i think

Hey CK.... The forum isn't really the place to ask these specific questions to the Taxi staff. They are not always on here looking for such questions. Either call Taxi or email: memberservices _AT_ taxi dot com.

Great hanging with you at the rally!
