TAXI # Y131125IF

Post by thelostwoods » Sat Nov 16, 2013 2:40 pm

Howdy!

We need help with genre on these songs. We're considering submitting, 'Bad Seed', 'Captive' and 'Meltdown' for the listing: TAXI # Y131125IF. Do you think they are appropriate? Not sure they are cool, hip, or energetic... :?

Thank you very much in advance.

Jenny & Luke

I can't comment on the genre and whether these would be right for the listing, but I dig the vibe. These are really cools songs. Good luck.

Hi LostWoods. :D

Very nice cool songs.
Very nice vocals.
Very nice clean acoustic guitar.
Very nice lyrics.

However, since I am not a member of TAXI I don't know what the listing is asking for.
If you could paste the listing into the thread that would be great.
As far as I know I think I have to be a member before I can read the listings.

Again, very nice job.
Good Luck. :D

NEW LISTING -- The Owner of a very successful Music Library with tons of super cool placements needs more Indie Folk Songs for his catalog. He's looking for songs that could be heard on the same playlist as Mumford and Sons, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, The Lumineers, etc. Songs that have a cool, hip vibe, and tons of energy are perfect for this pitch. Mid-to-Up Tempo songs only. Male and female vocals will both work. Please keep your lyrics universal. This company offers an Exclusive, 50/50 deal. You must own or control 100% of your Master and Composition rights. Broadcast Quality is needed (great sounding home recordings are fine). Please submit one to three songs online or per CD. All submissions will be screened on a Yes/No basis - No full critiques. Submissions must be received no later than Monday, November 25, 2013.

Hey Jenny and Luke,
Great tracks however I don't think they fit this listing. But hey! I've had many returns ;) ;)

Bands like Mumford and Lumineers have these really memorable choruses that EXPLODE with repeated lyrics and alot of vocal hooks like the Ho Hey's and Ohhh's and Ahhhh's EVERYWHERE in the song.... soooo many hooks.
These bands also use a variety of organic instruments that colour the songs.... banjo, mando, trumpets, cello ect.

I hear an indie singer songwriter style in your songs. I also hear a nirvana(unplugged) influence in there.

there's my 2 cents. Good luck in wherever you take these tracks :D :D :D

Thanks for taking the time to listen and reply, fellow musicians. Getting good input/feedback is valuable and we appreciate it. We like your insight, Bamtone, on Mumford and The Lumineers. Long live musical discussion!

Hi all. :D

Casey, thanks for posting the Taxi listing.

LostWoods, I agree with the comments about adding some other instruments.
Some of Mumford's songs don't have any other intstruments but most of these bands do have them in the background just to build/develop to a bigger sound in the chorus, etc.

Just as an aside, I sometimes hear a sort of Irish folk style and bluegrass in Mumford songs.

Sometimes Mumford songs build like you do in yours, using heavier strum rhythms, but most other of these bands seem to build/develop doing that heavier strumming plus other instruments or patches.

You might want to try something like this:
- on one song, keep it similar to a straight Mumford acoustic sound
- on another song, try adding some other instruments in the background maybe doubling on melody during buildup sections or
just holding a chord on an orchestral patch.
(using synthesizers it seems like there are an infinite number of things you can play with or try out on the build sections)
- on a third song, try adding some vocal hooks like bam suggested

That way you would have 3 different approaches to the listing.

Again, all very cool tracks. :D

Hey all. :D

Again, Seven Seas, excellent track.
Maybe you could also put the whistle hook in the introduction and at the end.
Then I think you would have a very strong hook.
I think the idea of a hook is to make it stick in the mind of the listener.
Best way to do that seems to be keep repeating it wherever you can.

Very cool.
