(Vs)
Today the paper brought heartbreaking news
Saw your wedding picture in section 2
Said your honeymoon would be in Paris France
and I cursed myself for my missed chance

(Vs)
There was a time when you belonged to me
a time I belonged to you equally
But I put off asking for your waiting hand
and you drifted away to another man

(Ch)
Hindsight leave me be
don't want to look back and see
What I gave up and what I lost
what I took for granted and what it cost
Hindsight all you're bringing me
is regret and stinging tears
I don't need you hindsight
my guilt's already here

(Vs)
I used to daydream we would meet again;
reignite the flame that we had back then
I visualized the picture I see
and instead of him it was you with me

(Vs)
But I led you on for way too long
you got tired of waiting and just moved on
I know I acted like I didn't care
but my feigned indifference hid despair

(Ch)
Hindsight leave me be
don't want to look back and see
What I gave up and what I lost
what I took for granted and what it cost
Hindsight all you're bringing me
is regret and stinging tears
I don't need you hindsight
my guilt's already here

(Bridge)
I see a young boy standing by your side
Did you think it wouldn't matter to me?
You hid from me what his face can't hide;
the part of me that'll make you happy

(Ch)
Hindsight leave me be
don't want to look back and see
What I gave up and what I lost
what I took for granted and what it cost
Hindsight all you're bringing me
is regret and stinging tears
I don't need you hindsight
my guilt's already here

Hi LooknGlass:

I bought a book by Robin Fredericks on song writing. One of the exercises that you could do is find a hit song you really like. Then, you re-write that hit song with you own lyrics until you have written lyrics that are as good or better than their original ones. Then, you take your lyrics and you write your own original tune that's as good or better than their tune....and viola, you will have a hit song with great lyrics.

I tried this exercise. I was never able to get to writing a new tune because I was never able to come up with lyrics that were anywhere near as good or better than their lyrics. I think the exercise is meant to humble you and show you exactly where you lyrics are at...in my case, usually back to the drawing board. I haven't given up though.

Well...maybe you'll have better luck with the exercise than I did and end up writing a great new hit song. It's very educational! I'm sure most people here would recommend that you give it a try. You can learn a lot about what it takes to write a great song by comparison to the best writers out there.....those talented lucky ducks. Good luck! :)
