Lyricist Needed

Post by adamstrings » Sun May 24, 2009 8:11 am

I'm looking for some advice out there. I have been submitting music and getting returns for a year. Time and again, the screener points out a too-conventional lyrics or just not good enough. My music, melodies, and structures consistently rate considerably higher. I do NOT disagree. I am first and foremost a musician. I have collaborated with lyricists, with mixed results.I very much want to explore possible lyricists for hire who are (or aren't) taxi members. I would offer some financial compensation and, of course, 50/50 ownership of the song(s).How would you all recommend I proceed? ...a link to some of my music...www.myspace.com/adamhymanmusic

Well, this is a good start. You could also go down the main page to collaborators corner or whatever it is, see if something comes from that.Do you have samples of your music? What genre?

Hey Squids. I write pop/rock, and often pop/r&b. What makes it more challenging, perhaps, is the fact that I usually have the music already-I sometimes have a chorus lyric or a couple of phrases(which the lyricist is not obligated to use). For a quick listen, you can follow this link...www.myspace.com/adamhymanmusic

I listened to a couple of the songs on your myspace. My feedback is the songs are all mid to slow tempo, and I think those are the hardest to pitch. In addition, the production elements (quality of instrumental sounds) may also work against you. I like your melodic ideas though. I like your work, there's nothing 'wrong' with it, but the question is, is it commercial? Like many of us, you need to figure out who you sound like / write to the market... and any lyricist would have to do that as well. I'm babbling, but I think my point is... be careful not to assume that having better lyrics will change a return to a forward. You need to look at the whole package. My favourite track is 'Make You Happy'.... it's uptempo and has a vibe. Who's your 'a la' on it?

Thanks for all of the smart comments-and it certainly was NOT babble. It just happens that these are mostly mid to slow tempo tunes. Not typical. I'll change up the songs to prove that. Don't Say G-bye and Make you Happy were written most recently, when I decided to "go top 40." I am presently finishing up a track in the studio of the top 40 pop rock sound. I'd say towards the Daughtry/DeGraw/even All-Amer. Rejects sound. But, of course that's how I envision it...I'll let the listener decide.

I am gonna be honest , you have some good songs but there are some major things that will kep the modern listener and Taxi from enjoying the music .. one is ur drum kits are terrible they sound like a old drum box kit , today even through modern pop/hiphop/rap people are using drum kits that hit the stereo alot harder than back in the early 90's and 80's . The track called "truth" that track could really be a hit song, you should really consider me remixing the track for you or maybe all together just getting rid of the music and writing something all together different ..let me know if ur interested cause we could make a huge hit outta that song its got good value,..hit me up at fry112@aol.com if you wanna get me quick..
