YES! Seven Seas is definitely closer :D :D :D
Great work!
If you'd add mandolin or banjo in the mix it would probably add to the indie folk vibe.
I think MC definitely has a point about making that whistle part the hook, that's a great part. It might need to be modified so it's at it's strongest, melodically and it really sticks out to the listener.

Your song starts off within the the indie style. But then as the lyric starts and the drums get into a busy syncopated rhythm that threw me off. Instead of changing and syncopating the drum pattern I'd try to simplify it. Maybe replace the kick with a tambourine?

when I listen to Edward Sharp's 'Home' and lumineers 'Ho Hey' and Mumford's 'I will Wait'
the verses really support the singer, giving him(or her) space.... there's hardly anything going on.... then it blows up in the chorus with group vocals and fireworks :D :D :D

Hi Guys,

For what it's worth, the singer really reminds me of Randy Meisner (Eagles bassist, sang lead on Take It To The Limit).

The quality of the recordings is good, however I don't hear it on the same playlist as those guys. There is definitely more of a 70's vibe here (there was a 70's sounding listing recently!).

Hope that helps.

John

More great input! We love it!

We're excited to focus more on production in the future and all your tips are well received. Sometimes it's easy to forget that less can be more. :D

So, what sort of 'a la' should we look out for? We never thought to watch out for '70's listings before.

Cheers!

Hi again, LostWoods. :D

In my opinion, don't limit yourself.
It seems that I have heard Michael Laskow say several times in the Monday night videos that you might be able to submit a track several times for a bunch of different listings.
You have excellent tracks so this sounds like it might be a case where you could do that with some of your tracks. I mean submit one of them to several different listings.
Sure you will be out $5. if it doesn't get forwarded. But most of the time when they reject it you will get feedback that will help you narrow down what it can be used for in the future.
Obviously, you don't want to blow $5. on a heavy metal or rap listing. Just things that seem to be in your ballpark.

Maybe think of it this way:
How many times have you watched a reality TV show or sitcom or commercial and mostly ignored the dialog but pay a great deal of attention to the music first and foremost thru the whole show? Don't pay much attention to the dialog except for as an afterthought to the music tracks you are hearing. It's tricky to do this but with a little listening practice it becomes easy very quickly. Try to think of one of your tracks and how it would fit as background to any of these situations.

This may help to quickly clarify things and also give you confidence when you see how many things your music could actually be used for.
It's also an excuse to watch more TV. LOL

I just joined TAXI last night and I think I am going to follow Michael's advice here.
Namely , I want to try creating music in several styles and never give up on a track. If it does not work right now, I'll just save it and go on to new tracks because that track I just finished might just work for a future listing.

My humble observations, hope this helped. :D

Hi Lost Woods.
There are some great comments already by Bamtone and others but just want to say I really like your stuff. To me, sometimes there are colours reminiscent of Steeleye Span. ( love the guitar tone too - what is it?)
Best regards
Steve

Thanks for the input, guys. We'll take all your advice to heart.

The guitar is a Martin DCPA. Luke is developing a very unique flat-picking tone. He is new to the guitar and cannot help playing this way -- it was just what his heart was telling him. It took him two years to get this far. Can't wait to see where he'll be in a few more years!

Yours,

Jenny
