Hi there,
I'm thinking of submitting a song to this listing. Just wondering if anyone knows how it works regarding the owner of the publishing on the song we choose to cover. How do we know if the publisher will consent to use of the song as they essentially own it?
I have emailed Taxi for clarification however they haven't responded so wondering if anyone has had experience with sound alike listings?
COVERS of CONTEMPORARY TOP 40 HIT POP SONGS from the New Millennium (2000-2013) are needed by a very busy Music Library looking to add a bunch more songs to their catalog. Quoting the source: "We're looking for straight up, SOUND-A-LIKE, covers of well know contemporary songs in the Pop genre. I'm NOT looking for acoustic covers, or Country versions. You should have current and marketable production values on songs that we already know and love!" Be sure that you stay true to the original melody and lyrics. Broadcast Quality is needed (great sounding home recordings are fine). This company offers an EXCLUSIVE Deal, so please be sure your material is NOT already signed to any other Libraries or Catalogs. This will be a 50/50 split on the Master Recording only, as the original writer will still own the publishing. You must own or control 100% of your Master to submit for this pitch. Please submit one to three covers online or per CD. All submissions will be screened on a Yes/No basis - No full critiques. Submissions must be received no later than Monday, January 20, 2014.

Re: Sound a likes
Good Q!
I'm actually working on a 1990's R&B sound alike as we speak.
If they sign it, you'll probably be paid whatever the terms are (maybe a flat fee or something else) and the writer will get their share too, but ONLY if it's used.
Again, just because it's signed doesn't mean they'll even use it.
Hope others can share additional info, because I'm also curious ...
Good luck!!!!
