As a member of the Idolumic team I would like to thank you for including our software in your discussion. TuneSmith is indeed a free companion product for licensed users of Rhyme Genie and can be registered on as many computers as desired with the same serial number that was issued for Rhyme Genie.

Kayle actually emailed us a few weeks ago about the possibility to run the Mac version of TuneSmith without the Rhyme Genie plug-in. It was an unexpected request but if you are an accomplished artist like Kayle with hundreds of instrumental tracks it makes perfect sense. Anyone who is interested in following his lead can do so by simply removing the file RhymeGenieExtension.fmpur from the TuneSmith application folder.

The ability to automatically tag mp3 files which have been added to TuneSmith is an attractive feature to consider. The metadata of any added audio file could automatically be populated with the information entered into TuneSmith’s song catalog.

Russell, you recommended adding ‘One-Stop Pre-Cleared’ to the comments metatag of an audio track. If this is one of several possibilities what would the other clearing options be? I’d be interested in a link to a copy of your data spreadsheet if your offer still stands.

Andy, you pointed out that different publishers ask for different data sheets and some even use online submission forms. Are there any data sheets, spreadsheets or online submission forms that you are willing to share?

Any additional information or feature requests would truly be helpful. Thanks!

I feel like this is a dumb question but how do I get the info to burn to an audio cd? I keep ending up with "Track 1". Not only no metadata but not even a track name. I have tried a couple things with iTunes, mainly .wav and .aif burned from a playlist full of metadata. I have the "Include CD Text" box checked, I'm guessing that's what this is for. I have been looking around the internet but can't find anything useful.

Michael

ps
After searching further I think it may be an either/or situation. CD audio or data cd with files containing metadata.

And your response was so fast and right on the money. I did what you said and it works like a charm. I use Tunesmith all the time. Totally worth the $30 price!

Thank you for your fantastic support - and a great product.

Cheers

This would be great. But it won't help with AIF files, I believe. When I submitt final tracks to libraries, I need to send AIF files, and the only way to include the metadata seems to be to do the Drag out of iTunes to the desktop thing.

BUT - if you could have Tunesmith to apply the tags to AIF files as well as MP3's and have it stick with the audio file, that would be a killer feature.

Thank you for your kind words, Kayle.

Currently TuneSmith is only able to edit the metadata of mp3 audio files. The ability to edit the metadata of AIFF audio files would be ideal but will require a major rewrite of TuneSmith and raise the minimum system requirements to Windows 7 and OS X 10.7. Currently TuneSmith runs on OS X 10.6 and Windows XP which still represents a substantial portion of the overall OS market.

That being said the metadata of an AIFF audio file generated with iTunes should be preserved if the file is added to TuneSmith's song catalog. The actual audio file is merely stored in TuneSmith but not altered in any way. If the file is emailed from within TuneSmith's song catalog then the metadata of the AIFF audio file should still be available to the recipient.

Thanks again for the valuable feedback.

I understand your situation and that you have to have development priorities.

I look forward to a future version where I can store, file, manage, catalog and tag my catalog all within Tunesmith. And while we're at it, why not add an email and upload feature? So when I finish my track, I add it to Tunesmith, add all the information and then send it to my library either via email or other means. I mean, how hard can that be to add? As long as you are re-writing the entire app. :D

Thanks -

The free TuneSmith 4 update is now available. The new version offers many of the features requested in this forum:

You will also find a new button in TuneSmith's setup screen that allows you to disable or enable the Rhyme Genie plug-in. Thanks again for your great feedback!

Hi TheDev :)

I have been using MasterWriter, which I found great.... but my homemade spreadsheet to keep account of co-writes and submissions etc was a mess and far too simple, so after reading/talking to Steven W Guiles, I invested in the RhymeGenie/Tunesmith package.

I haven't looked back - Tunesmith is very simple to use and does everything I need and want it too. My only niggle (a pretty big one for me) is that because I am a PC user, RhymeGenie and Tunesmith do not talk to each other
Please, could you sort this out pretty soon ? I have to currently copy and paste ALL chosen rhymes over from one to the other, and when pasted a whole lot of other 'info' gets pasted too which I then have to manually delete to be able to read my list of words while I work..... very not good.

I had stopped my MasterWriter subscription to save money, but now I am thinking that I should restart it and use it to write the lyrics, and then when a song is completed, paste the lyrics over into Tunesmith for record keeping purposes as above. I'd rather not do this, unless RG genies come up with a link up for PC users, as it is very clumsy.

Also, you do advertise on your website that the 2 parts link. When I bought it I assumed it did just that. It wasn't until, as a PC user, I started to use it that I couldn't make the link work, emailed yourselves and was told that the software doesn't link in the PC version. I really think that should be made very clear on your website so that PC users know this before they buy. I actually bought it purely for the TuneSmith part, but it was still annoying that it didn't link together as promised on the website (and which I am very used to when using MasterWriter).

Best regards,
Amanda

Hi Amanda,
Thanks for your enthusiasm for TuneSmith. I have a feeling that you will love the new improvements in TuneSmith 4 in regards to the rhyme clipboard.

Generally speaking the only difference in functionality between the Windows version and the Mac version is that you cannot look up words in Rhyme Genie from within TuneSmith's text editor with a single click. To look up rhymes you have to copy words via the computer clipboard or manually type them into Rhyme Genie's search field.

That being said Rhyme Genie and TuneSmith work in the same fashion on both platforms when you copy Rhyme Genie's clipboard entries to TuneSmith's rhyme clipboard. The PC version merely requires an extra click (one click to copy Rhyme Genie's clipboard entries into your computer clipboard and one click to copy the computer clipboard entries into TuneSmith's clipboard). Remember to press the 'alt/option' key when you click on Rhyme Genie's copy button so that the rhymes are copied in a format that TuneSmith understands.

One of the new features in TuneSmith 4 is that the rhyme clipboard automatically shows Rhyme Genie's last copied search word above the rhymes mates. Click on the small arrow just to the left to access any previously copied search word and show the corresponding rhyme mates. TuneSmith 4 also gives you the option to display the words and phrases separately.

All these improvements make TuneSmith's rhyme clipboard just as powerful as MasterWriters' rhyme clipboard and Rhyme Genie's rhyming capabilities surpass MasterWriter's capabilities on many levels. As a registered user you can update to Tunesmith 4 free of charge.
