A couple late night subs from a couple of days ago

Post by 2lane » Sun Apr 13, 2014 3:13 pm

Heya Gang
CONTEMPORARY HIP HOP INSTRUMENTALS are needed by the super successful Music Licensing Company with tons of great placements to their credit. They need modern, Mid-Tempo Hip Hop Instrumentals in the stylistic ballpark of 2 Chainz, Juicy J, Trinidad James, etc. Quoting the source: "We're getting a lot of requests for Hip Hop instrumentals from a big sports network, so having material ready to pitch and present them is a big priority. Tracks need to sound current, like they came directly from a record." Give them bumpin' Instrumentals that deliver a vibe of toughness, grit, and perseverance. Please avoid old school or lifeless sounding Instrumentals for this pitch. Do NOT submit any material with unauthorized samples of other artists' songs, sounds, or any other form of media. Broadcast Quality is needed (great sounding home recordings are fine). This company offers an EXCLUSIVE 50/50 deal, so please be sure that your Instrumentals are NOT already signed with any other catalogs or libraries. You must own or control 100% of the Master and Copyright. Please submit one to three Instrumentals online or per CD. All submissions will be screened on a Yes/No basis - No full critiques. Submissions must be received no later than Thursday, April 10, 2014.
TAXI # Y140410HI

First submissions in a long while...feels good to be having my tunes listened to along side some of yours. I really have no expectations either way, this genre is not my forte by far. I'm thinking maybe they don't evolve enough, or aren't current enough?
Cribin' It I just got under the wire....had like an hour or 2 left on the deadline (that's 1:30AM EST) , after starting that day, with 7 hours of day gig stealing time away, only an hour or so on the mix........not good!
Oh well, if they don't go, I'll post 'em up in the returned area so maybe some can compare to what went, maybe it'll help somebody down the road with what doesn't work for these type listings....I'm cool like that! 8-)
Ifn's youz guys are kind enough to opine, please be blunt if you feel it needed...I'm just trying to learn and get better!
"ALL" comments will be appreciated and well taken!
Good to be back in the crosshairs....

Be No Dat, Cribin It....on my Taxi page.
Forgive the "sparse underscore" of my page...just got back on the grid
Thanks
Steve

Sounds good, Steve. I'm not expert in this genre, but I think these tracks have a shot.

Way to go trying expand your skills. Michael recently said that he thinks these hip-hop listings get overlooked by a lot of members.

Woah Steve great stuff

I know absolutely nothing about this kinda music, but it found it very cool in deed.

The clarity impressed me the most.

The second one has a little suspense built into it.

Loved the electronic stuff buzzing around everywhere.

I gotta git me some of that stuff. Ha ha

Old man very impressed

Good luck

Paul

Dear Steve,

I am listening to : "The Bog Slog". It is Folk Americana, and it is an Instrumental.
The play of the different Guitars together is formidable stupendous ! :)
The Rhythm and Tempo are just right. And with a very good choice of one Drum that paces the Song all along very nicely.
The Mix is precise and accurate. And all the Sonorities are ideal.
At the very first two seconds however, you make a sound with your Voice. I know, you probably intended it as a Wink ;) ... but is it going to work ? Such a shame if it would not, just for this tiny detail.
Or they could edit it, if they want to, yes.

I am listening to : "Cribin' it". Oh it is EDM ! Electronica Danse Floor Music. :D Oh I love it so !
It is so quirky, off beat, unconventional ... with stupendous original Musical Ideas. With Edit points and a Button end.
It is not very long : 2.04 only. The Button end is a tiny bit too shy and short.
Perhaps about the Mix, I would have increased the Sound level of all the (funny-so good) Instrumental Parts, compared to the Beat.
Yes, I would love it louder.
You know, it is like in Photography. It is easier to have a large size Photo, and to be able to reduce its size at will, that the other way round. If one wants a large Photo from a small Photo, it does not work : it becomes blur.
I think that the same applies to Music.

I am listening to : "Be Not Dat". I think that it is Electronic Pop.
An excellent Beat. I am enjoying all the Developments and its Dynamic. There is a touch of Hip Hop. It is well done.
Actually this Instrumental could become very successful, as it is young and Contemporary.
I think you have created a brilliant Musical Idea with "Be Not Dat" (good Title)
Keep it safe ! You may want to expand it toward further Musical Creations.
See what the Screener will tell you. Hopefully, he/she will give you good constructive advice on it.

Oh I have loved to know you a wee bit more through your Music today, dear Steve ! :)

Hey Michael,
Thanks for listening to all three tunes also. The Bog Slog, actually, the whole song is kind of a joke, not just the little vocal intro thingie (I'll post the lyric also). I tried to work something up new for a listing, and fell short, so I used
this tune for it. It's an instr version of an older tune that I didn't have time to remix, other than throwing some mastering plugins on the 2 trk wav that I didn't have back when I did it. Also wish I had the mics I have now back then. I actually went outside with my portable DAT recorder and captured me stomping my feet on the deck in the back yard for the grove. Tried to get it to sound like some guys playing on a porch. The lyric is even funnier I must say. The guitars and mandolin are all real, but the stand-up bass is a VST (I think it's the Pear bass from Orange Tree Samples)
At 28s is where the chorus starts....it WAS intended, but may have lost some muster without the lyric there?
Thanks to you too Michael, you're also very kind and thanks for liking my work...as I do yours as well.
The original title is:

THE PORCH AND THE BOG

The old muddy bog done gave up a ghost
And floated that body out by the hickory post
Now some Sheriff's been coming 'round
Asking me and saying, so ya didn't hear a sound

I've been here on my porch sir
Every night playing guitar
I tell ya I ain't seen a thing
Whispering, and if I did don't mean he didn't deserve it

I wish that old bog would take it back
It's got the whole town up my crack
That old sheriff's been doggin' me
I swear it's his fingers when I take a leak

Now go on and confess boy
You know you put the hole in that man
I'm gonna dog you til ya die son
And if I can't catch ya doesn't mean you didn't do it

Thanks everyone for giving a listen
Steve

Hi Steve,

Thank you very much for explaining that.

I guessed it was your mischievous sense of humour at work. :D :D :D :D

I know we weren’t meant to listen to that piece but that is a great track and with some judicious editing it could soon find a home.

One thing I’ve been meaning to ask you:-

Is a person who makes allegations and alligator?

Please don’t make a snappy decision on your reply!!!!!

I better go now.

Michael.
