Anyone here with BMI?

Post by daveydad » Fri Apr 18, 2014 7:17 pm

Was told I'm getting some song placements in various TV shows but the music library do not keep track of which ones and I won't know until my BMI royalties show up. Was told ASCAP sends updates on how cues are used but not BMI. True? Am wondering how long before I actually see royalties paid if music has been used say... in Q1 of 2014. Thanks.

Another quickie... can one easily switch from one PRO to another? Or belong to both? Pros/cons?

I belong to BMI. Being able to collect the publisher's royalties on self published stuff without extra fees was the clincher for me. You can't belong to more than one PRO. You can switch... but there are a lot of hoops and stuff to jump through.

So the library hasn't shared the licensing fee? Or do they not charge any?

Hey David,

I belong to BMI as well. I believe when I signed up with them (within the past couple of years) it was for a minimum of 2 years, if I recall correctly.

HTH,
Juliet
