Great Recording Stand Alone Keyboard?

Hi Guys I've decided to finally take the plunge and learn how to play some chords on the keyboard. But I only have a midi controller and want to get a stand alone keyboard.

Will be taking some lessons from a friend who plays.

Is there a decent stand alone keyboard that might be worth getting which not only could be used to learn on but also record with?

I like the Yamaha MOtif xf7. It can be a little complicated at first but it can pretty much do anything. Great for sequencing and creating individual song patterns. However it does take some time to get up to speed on it,but it's worth it.

I'm following this thread out of interest to see what kinds of gear gets recommended.
I sorta wished you'd put up a price range; 'cause that can make a lot of difference to some of us.

Workstations:

Korg triton extreme,korg M3,korg Kronos.

Roland fantom X ,Roland fantom G.

Yamaha motif.

Virtual Analog:

Access virus ti2 or snow

Roland v synth

Clavia nord lead

Analog:

DSI prophet

With the workstations there isn't a need for external recording tools,the virus works like a plugin within a daw.

The Virus snow is in rack form only and like the ti2 they work both standalone and as a plugin.

On the list Apostolis provided, I have the Korg Kronos and love it, but wish I would have gone with the Roland Fantom because I'm more familiar with Roland and I'm use to the interface and sounds.... however... did I say I LOVE my Korg Kronos.

But that being said, Gavin, the price point on these are pretty steep if you are a non-keyboard player. You might be better off with just a MIDI controller and VSTi's. There are tons of free VSTi stuff out there that is killer. (But I thought you played keyboard... are you playing with us )

what I got from Gavin's question... correct me if I misinterpreted:
what's a good piece of keyboard gear?
that has pro-quality sounds that can encourage a wannabee to play it and improve;
and eventually use in recording projects.

It's my thinking that it's tough to be motivated to learn and improve on an instrument that sounds crappy. And conversely... something that sounds great and is fun to play, you can't put down.

I'm thinking about firing up my fender tube amp and playing some guitar this weekend. see how that works with a dance track..

modern day gear and software practically plays itself... specially for the rhythms and syncopation for dance music... i am feeling like less and less of a keyboard player and more like a button pusher myself.

Edit: speaking of button pushing... Korg's implementation of "KARMA Technology" in their keyboards is just that kind of thing. And bloody fun to play with in the Kronos.
