Food for thought
My music business lecturer ask a classmate of mine this question. If you got two million dollars would you stop practicing and lose that drive for music. My classmate said yes (in my mind I'm thinking he's not serious about music it's not his drive) then my lecturer said a real musician wouldn't care if they had two dollars or two million they'd practice the same way everyday regardless. Which are you? I am going to keep on whether two dollars or two million.

Great question, but can you really tell until you face the actual temptation?

Re: Food for thought
Oh, without a DOUBT I would...I'd make even more music.Listen, money can buy you a lot of things...enough of it can allow you to just sit on your can for the rest of your life. When you're working hard and suffering, that sure sounds good. But if that's all you do, you become a useless sponge. People need meaning in their lives...money is never enough. How many of you feel that making music is meaningless? Is it drudgery? If so, please don't make anymore. Man, wouldn't it be great to afford to make music 24/7? Bring it on!

Re: Food for thought
what the hell is 2 million bucks? hell, it would cost me 1/2 that to REALLY get my stuff produced the right way, and with me in the studio telling them in "english" rather than "music" how the hell i wanted it produced....so i guess that is "musglish?"and the other million? well, if i sold everything i "own" right now, and my wife didn't kill me, and i lived in a tent (by myself, as she would have thrown me out...) i'd have a million, but this is silly-cone valley, so hell, i'd probably give it all to mark and billg! and a few others....now back to reality...but would i stop writing? no. period. oh, here's a real one ----- .wh

I'd get to leave the full time day gig, and so music would benefit for sure. Then I'd work on making that next $2M through music

Re: Food for thought
We have to ask ourselves this question about everything we pursue in life. If it's purely for the money, then it's just a means to an end, and we have to ask ourselves what "end" it is we're pursuing, and is it worth pursuing.Music, for me, is not necessarily an end unto itself. It really can't be. If it were, I'd create it and never feel the need to share it with anyone. So, for me, it's part of the whole fabric of who I am and the relationships I have. That's worth pursuing. I've never been able to lay it down, even when making lots o' money (ok, to me it was lots of money ).
