The SM7 was mentioned above, yes it's a great multi purpose mic, but it does require a bit of gain. Make sure you have a pre that can provide the proper power if you go down that road.

Every studio should have at least 1 SM57 . It's a standard for a reason.

Yes i have a brilliant little pre called an ART Tube. Really inexpensive and a God send. I had to buy it. I use an M Audio and it's fine when using the (TSR connections?) , your normal guitar lead in other words. But... plug in an XLR and your mics hardly get picked up unless you crank the gain. The ART pre was just what the doctor ordered.
