Question re: new "Indie Rock Instrumental" Listing

Post by Paulie » Sun Apr 05, 2015 12:06 pm

I'm learning that the art of Taxi success is the ability to properly interpret the listing description. :-) This listing specifies instrumentals, but the the three examples are all vocal tunes. So, when shooting for "the feel and vibe they need" do I go for just the background track, or does an instrumental melody need to be provided as well?
EMOTIONALLY UPBEAT, INDIE ROCK INSTRUMENTALS are needed by a busy Music Licensing Company that has a long history of great placements in Films, TV Shows, Commercials, and Movie Trailers. Please submit well-crafted, Mid-to-Up-Tempo Instrumentals that capture the fun, energetic, and infectious vibe of acts like American Authors, Bleachers, Imagine Dragons, etc., etc., etc. Please listen to the following songs to get an idea of the feel and vibe they need:

“Believer” by American Authors:

“Rollercoaster” by Bleachers:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ldk2pLyVZ4c

“On Top Of The World” by Imagine Dragons:

Submit Instrumentals that have a fresh, lively, and positive feel, with instrumentation that’s typical of the genre. Think of the music you’d hear during the carefree and lighthearted scenes of current TV shows. Tracks should be structured like songs, but without vocals. Memorable melodic and rhythmic hooks that can give your piece an immediately engaging quality will work perfectly for this pitch. Hand claps, foot stomps, whistles, light percussion, etc., that adds a bit a quirky flair could also be a great addition. All submissions should be at least 2 minutes in length. Please avoid faded endings.

Broadcast Quality is needed (great sounding home recordings are fine). They offer an EXCLUSIVE deal. You’ll split any upfront sync fees 50/50 with the company. They’ll get 100% of the Publisher’s share, and you’ll keep 100% of the Writer’s share. You must own or control 100% of your Master and Copyright. Since this is an EXCLUSIVE deal, please be sure the material you submit is NOT already signed with any other Libraries or Catalogs. Please submit one to three Songs online or per CD, include lyrics. All submissions will be screened on a Yes/No basis - No full critiques. Submissions must be received no later than 11:59pm (PST), on Wednesday, April 8th, 2015. TAXI #U150408IR

Hey Paulie - Sorry I only saw this now, and the deadline is already passed. I agree it's how carefully and exactly one can interpret the listing description. Harder than it sounds !!! But it's also getting the main idea - so that if you capture that, i.e. infectious, upbeat, etc. you'd definitely be in the ball park. I think you'd almost have to use some kind of melody to accomplish that, be interested to know how you did when you get your results back !
Cheers, Diane
