+1 for the idea that the listing party gets what they need and moves on.

"There will always be someone better than you and you will always be better than someone."

All you can do is keep shooting and try to hit at the top of that list as frequently as possible.

I think I'm just eager.
Newbie-itis I think I heard it called.
Well, onward and upward, it can only get better from here :):)

I'm still a "Newbie" at this, too... but I'd add to all that...
when you have a piece to submit to a listing, even if you think it's perfect and probably the best thing you've ever created;
STILL - throw it up on P2P for a review before you submit it the first time.
Take confidence that the folks there/here are pretty much in the same boat, as far as wanting to do good stuff, and succeed with it.

In all likelihood, what you think is great might still be improved to the point where a forward turns into a placement. Win-Win; right? :)
Like the old saying, "the ones that matter won't mind; and the ones that mind don't matter"...
or, something like that. The peeps are gonna be on your side for the most part, and will help you get where you wanna go.

To your success... cheers.

Hey Zac, thanks for the encouragement ! I use Addictive Keys most of the time, but I also have access to a basic Miroslav library that has some
killer piano sample sounds, and i gotta say I find it really inspiring when the sound is that good. You almost can't play badly when it sounds so delicious.
And yes I tweak everything and anything, probly way too much. I try compression and reverb and eq on every track, then I usually decide
either to remove most of it, or sometimes I'll keep a little just to warm something up or what have you. I don't have a "system" yet,
but I'm looking forward to that day ! I guess it's a little like cooking, you know, watching a chef who knows what they're doing "looks" random,
but they've got a precise system but they don't even really have to think about it much. That's what I want with my mixing. (sigh)

Well, this was definitely a lively post, as someone pointed out.

Bottom line, is just to keep on producing better and better music and always reaching for something better !

-cheers, diane :)

I know I am new to Taxi so take my opinions with a grain of salt :) I just want the practice of talking to other folks in this industry so here is my thinking on this.

The OP's major point here for me is to be working on the same team rather than as opposition and against each other. I think Simon Cowell defined the overall stance of the music industry on his AI stint and it seems to ring true as a standard in the industry. That would be a starting point and the attitude to expect when getting to the comments on a submission, cut and dry with a possible flavoring along the way.

In reading the comments of a submission though, I like the thought of a difference between "I would forward this if you made this change" verses "I would never forward this but I'm too nice to be crude". I think listening to a submission and deciding against it is one talent. To have to write a short essay explaining why is an entirely different talent.

Some folks can pick a song but may stink at writing about it. They (the screener) may stoke the fire by making up a bad reason that only opens the door for hope and "if only" thinking on the person submitting. The real truth is the song is solidly turned down, but they still need to write something and that part is done quick and on the fly. So the color blue really isn't the problem, but is the easy way out to writing something "short and sweet".

I haven't been here long enough to know, but if a song really really is liked and there is no open door path to making a small correction then this sounds like a great point to make. It is hard to fathom sinking a great submission because of a word or an ending type. If a reviewer can, or has the option to communicate with a member to make that small change then this is a moot point. Do they have that option now, or would they pass on "The Story Of My Wife" because it should have been "The Story Of My Life"?
