Looking for input on a pop song

Post by caloop » Tue May 26, 2015 6:12 pm

Hi Everyone,

I seem to get a good response from my song 'Count On Me' as it has been forwarded four times by taxi on various submissions. The problem is I've never heard back from any of the labels/supervisors, so I'm not sure if it needs tweaking, a re-write, leave it alone and keep plugging away? Any and all input is welcome, and feedback on the mix would be great as well. Thanks for listening!

Caloop:

The song "count on me" does not appear to be on your taxi page?

Hmmm. I assumed that everyone can see my page as I see it and it's visible and playable to me. Let's try this….

Thanks for bringing that to my attention!

You probably don't have the Public box checked for the song on your TAXI account.

And because you haven't heard back about a song yet doesn't mean it's not good. If it keeps getting forwarded and is receiving good critique from the screener, you're definitely on the right track. The song sounds good to me from what I can tell.

Hi Catloop, What a well written, executed and produced song. That is something I would aspire to.
Four forwards it's really knocking on some doors.
If you are thinking of making changes have you thought about the tone of the keys? Maybe a gritty or contemporary organ/synth sound? something hooky!

Real sweet track, and I loved the vocalists' attitude. Ott

Hey Caloop,

Great job ~ very cool track. The singer had such a kick-ass attitude (she did a super job!) and it's definitely fun to listen to. I'm no expert, but the mix sounded balanced, like everything had it's own space. (Something I'm working on mastering.)

If it's getting consistently positive feedback, and it's getting forwarded, maybe it just hasn't hit the right listing yet or found it's niche. That said, at the risk of going against the grain, I'm gonna go out on a limb and suggest that maybe it could be even better...

Lyrically, there's a lot of cool lines. (BTW, I wish you had posted the lyrics so that we could read them.) I really liked the first verse, especially the opening lines "I grew up a little bit too fast / never had time to take it slow..." That's one of those cool opposite juxtapositions that really piqued my interest. But the beginning of the chorus was a bit of a let down for me, personally. It started out really cool; I loved the way your slid the melody note up on "way" and "play" in the initial "I'm on my way / Yeah I come to play" lines, but the next few lines felt a bit redundant ("every single day / I am on my way / Yeah I come to play / every single day") to my ear.

I'd like to hear you get right to the hook/title "You can count on me" right after the first "play" and simply cut those extra (IMHO) "every single day / I am on my way / Yeah I come to play / every single day" lines. Something like this:

I'm on my way, yeah I come to play
You can always count on me
I'm there for you
I got your back through and through
Cause you can always count on me
my eyes on you
I'll get you back on track
that's what i do
Yeah, I'm with you all the way
Every single day
You can always count on me

I'd also consider shining more of a spotlight on the hook, maybe going up on "me" the first time you hit it (jumping up like you do on the word "quite" in the second verse - cool, but not a word worthy of such a great note).

There are lots of really nice things about this track (in addition to what I've already mentioned) - the keyboard riff that comes in at the 7 sec mark and repeats throughout, the bridge, the outtro - it's got great potential.

Whether you decide keep it as is or change it up a bit, I wish you the best of luck. :D
Best regards,

Michael (Amoriello) Michnya

Its a cool song and well produced. The only thing that I can see might prevent it being used a lot would be the transitions in it. Key change?

For cues they want the same thing repeated but adding removing layers and although I don't do songs I beleive key change transitions in a scene might not work that well either?

Just my thoughts. But its a decent song and vocals are great. 8-)
