Selling Lyrics

Post by EKmusik » Sun Jul 12, 2015 2:23 pm

Hi guys are there places where lyrics can be sold?

I write mainly lyrics and would like to find a market for them.

Many thanks for any help. 8-)

From my limited understanding on the business of songwriting, a writer shouldn't sell their lyrics because they would be relinquishing the ownership and the copyright. You can charge a fee for your songwriting services and retain your writer's share of the royalties, but in my opinion you should never just sell your lyrics outright unless the buyout price is purely amazing and you can still retain the writer's share.

Maybe someone else can chime in if I am wrong.

Commissary is probably right. Better to look for collaborators who write music in the same style as your lyrics?
