Question re: TAXI #Y150718EI (EDM or not?)

Listening to the a la's in this listing, I don't hear them as EDM. But I'm new to the genre so perhaps this still is? When I read EDM I think 128bpm, structured format with rises, a break, etc. So, do I go for a true EDM format, or follow the bolded sentence below "consistent with the references"? They sound more like guitar synth rock ish, or something,

Please submit pulsing Instrumentals that sound like an authentic EDM act, with a club-friendly beat, great melodic hooks, and an overall sound that's stylistically consistent with the references. Do not copy or rip off the referenced artists or songs in any way, shape, or form. Use them only as a general guide for tempo, texture, and tone. TAXI Tip: Because this is an Indie Film, the estimated license fee is only $100. But it's notable that the Music Supervisor for this film also works on some really big TV shows, so this could possibly be a great way for the Supervisor to get to know you and your music.

I'm not very familiar with EDM either, can't stand most of the mainstream Daft Punk, Avicii, Calvin Harris type stuff. But EDM seems to be an extremely broad term, like "rock". I have come across some very interesting subgenres of EDM like this that I really enjoy. I would forget everything you know to be EDM and focus on the alas since they all seem to be pretty similar. I'm sure they italicized "stylistically consistent with the references" for a reason.

I usually don't pay attention to EDM listings but thanks for bringing this to my attention, I am really enjoying the alas.

Yeah Paul, EDM is rather broad and varied. There's a wide range of tempos and styles that people classify as EDM these days, and many of them are quite un-danceable (EM?).

I think of current 128 bpm as mainly house and the multitude of genres based on house (and some techno), including festival and electro.

I would definitely classify the examples as EDM, or at least "electronica", but saying "electronica" is sorta like calling "classical" music "art music", and electronica as a genre is even more broad than EDM.

A sloppy but effective way to tell the difference between electronica and EDM (aka dance) is to check out 2 different iTunes charts--the "electronica" charts and the "dance" (aka EDM) charts. You'll hear the difference right away.

Well, I submitted a track that might be too metal for the listing, but I sort of got on a roll. I aimed for the a la's but with a little more edge. We shall see.
